Job:

We are seeking an experienced CNC Set-up Machinist for cylindrical grinding operations. You will be responsible for machine set-ups, programme editing and operating the machine. You must possess ‘senior level’ expertise in cylindrical grinding with experience of machine set-ups producing precision engineered parts.

Responsibilities:

Setup and program cylindrical grinding machine (Studer) according to blueprint and product specification for dimensions, tolerances and volume required.

  • Understand and select correct speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures and grinding wheels for each specific part in manufacture.
  • Verify first-run products for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers and air gaging.
  • Troubleshoot where there is nonconformance.
  • Maintain statistical process control charts.
  • Follow SOPs, RAMs and Health & Safety rules for machining operations.
  • Support the training of operators.
  • Use correct handling equipment for size and weight of parts.
  • Perform operator level machine maintenance duties as required,
  • Any additional task as requested by the organization.

 

Requirements:

  • Good understanding of speeds, feeds, wheel dressing, fixtures and tools associated with cylindrical grinding.
  • Can interpret complex blueprints and setup / programme machine accordingly.
  • Experience of editing programmes, knowledge of Winmax an advantage.
  • Possess a depth of knowledge to be able to resolve problems and maintain productivity.
  • Understands the need for adherence to procedures and rules especially around safe working.
  • Consistency produces accurate parts to specification.
  • Knowledge and experience of cylindrical grinding is such that you can independently and don’t require support from others.
  • Ability to work within close tolerances on a variety of complex parts to meet production deadlines.
  • An understanding of, and experience with, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is desirable.
  • This position requires attention to detail, strong technical skills, and the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will be a team player who takes pride in producing high-quality work.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Experience as CNC Set-up Machinist for cylindrical grinding operations.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, for length of 8–10-hour shift, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk and talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
