The CEO is accountable to the Board of Trustees in ensuring execution of the strategies and achieving the objectives of the organization’s long-range plan in advancement of the organization’s mission. Specifically, the major accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the overall impact of United Way of Hunterdon County on the community, focusing on increasing our capacity to support those who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed and those facing barriers to income stability, healthy living, and education access.
  • Oversee and integrate all aspects of UWHC’s fundraising and donor engagement activities, and cultivate and solicit new funding opportunities.
  • Oversee grant-related activities, including research, proposal preparation, contract administration, and communication with funders.
  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams, ensure alignment and collaboration to achieve organizational goals.
  • Supervise staff and volunteers to ensure successful execution of all fundraising and programs.
  • Act as the chief advocate for the organization and its beneficiaries.
  • Serve as the principal resource to the Board of Trustees and key committees, providing strong direction in policy formulation and interpretation.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND EDUCATION

  • Experience in and/or across multiple sectors (e.g., non-profit, public, corporate) with substantial experience working in the nonprofit sector is preferred. Leadership roles within another United Way organization is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or skill in the following:
    • Overseeing and integrating all fundraising and donor engagement activities, including managing annual giving programs, developing diverse fundraising strategies, securing major gifts and grants, organizing donor events, and supervising staff and volunteers.
    • Building and nurturing effective relationships with a Board of Trustees.
    • Working effectively with volunteers.
    • Developing strategies that address issues relevant and like those facing our organization including donor development, client cultivation, program creation, diversity, inclusion, and equity.
    • Building collaborative relationships and partnerships with the community at large and other non-profit organizations.
    • Managing the day-to-day operations of an organization including people and finances.
    • Developing organizational goals and delivering results through a sense of personal accountability.
    • Strong oral and written communicator with the ability to build rapport with and relate to a diverse population of clients, staff, volunteers, and donors
    • Inspirational collaborator and convener with a keen ability to coalesce people around a cause and mobilize people to action.
    • Developing diversity, inclusion, and equity strategies by creating actionable plans and clear metrics.
  • Experience with and exposure to local Hunterdon County community-based social services organizations and resources is desirable.
  • Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.
