Who we are:

Illuminarium Chicago at Navy Pier creates a venue designed to transport guests into incredible experiences. In an Illuminarium you can be transported through the looking glass into Wonderland, ride a rocket, leave your footprints on the moon, or be immersed in an African Safari. The experience is created using laser projectors, dozens of powerful video rendering engines, cutting edge beamforming audio arrays, multiple channels of audio, networked lidar arrays and show control. This equipment is utilized daily for our artist designed guest experiences, but it is also leveraged for special events and corporate buyouts that take full advantage of the flexibility of the system.

Who we need:

Illuminarium Chicago is looking for an onsite technician in the Chicago area to operate and maintain the technology in the venue on a daily basis. This position will report directly to the Illuminarium Touring tech/production team and support the operations team in putting on standard and special events. On a regular shift the technician will be the main contact for the technology systems and will ensure high up time while maintaining our high standards for guest experience.

Audio and Video Technician will have experience in live show production across multiple disciplines, including audio engineering and video production; and experience working with fixed guest experiences in the areas of audio and video system commissioning, programming, show control, and technical direction.

Audio and Video Technician must have proficiency in each of the following areas:

  • Live show production
  • Video signal distribution
  • Audio gain staging
  • AV system networking
  • System troubleshooting
  • Working without supervision
  • Good communication
  • Quick decision making
  • General computer use for installing and configuring programs, changing windows network and display settings, email, slack, etc.

Audio and Video Technician will have the following qualifications:

  • Watchout Media Servers & Software Training
  • Q-Lab experience
  • Dante Level 1, 2, or 3 Certification
  • TouchPlayer operational experience
  • Lightware Extender Experience
  • Show Control Experience
  • Projection Study and Maintenance Experience
  • Live FOH Mixing
  • Live Video Engineering
  • Man-Lift Certification

What you will be doing:

  • Regular maintenance of all experience technology equipment in the venue.
  • Documenting maintenance, faults, downtime, and needed improvements.
  • Being on call during your shift to resolve any problem that may arise as quickly as possible.
  • Interfacing and building collaborative relationships with the operations and events teams to ensure they have the technology they need to make a seamless experience for our guests.
  • Preparing and operating equipment for live events in service of the guests and events team.
  • Collaborate with, learn from, and teach team members from each discipline and venue so that we can operate as a team and cover for each other as needed.

Work Location: Primary work location is at the Illuminarium venue at Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois

Special Physical Requirements: The employee must be able to regularly lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift 75 pounds. Specific vision acuity requirements include close vision, depth perception, and color recognition. This person will frequently be required to be on step ladders up to 12' and extension ladders to 26'. Occasional use of a man-lift up to 40' will also be required.

Travel: Up to 10%

Workweek and Hours: 40 Hours scheduled during the week starting Monday ending on Sunday based on the needs of the business. Some flexibility including occasional long shifts may be required and no guarantee to dedicated days off during the week. All requests will be reviewed based on the business.
