Job DescriptionJob Description

The Career Pathways division at Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) bridges participants to employment, career opportunities, and post-secondary education. As a Reentry Career Academic Coordinator, you will guide participants through understanding high-growth sectors, careers, training options, and immediate employment opportunities. You will work one-on-one with participants to develop personalized career and education plans aimed at achieving their short and long-term goals, ultimately leading to economic self-sufficiency.

Applicants should have experience serving adult ages 18-30 years olds within the following priority populations: Justice involved, system impacted, undocumented, disconnected from education, unemployed and underemployed, public housing residents from San Francisco, foster care, pregnant and parenting. All applicants should be able to act with a sense of urgency, carry a caseload of up to 60 clients, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and innovation in working with youth and adults facing multiple barriers.

Benefits:

  • Compensation: $28 - $32/hour
  • Classification: Exempt, Full-time

Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years' experience navigating reentry workforce opportunities
  • Must be bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience with data entry and analysis
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to problem-solve and identify priorities with a sense of urgency
  • Familiarity working with undocumented transitional aged youth and adults in the Bay Area
  • Familiar with the criminal justice system and its impact on marginalized communities
  • Ability to work full time, including some evenings and periodic Saturdays
  • Successful completion of Live Scan/fingerprinting upon hire
  • 2+ years’ experience in the workforce development field
  • 2+ years’ experience working with youth and/or adults ages 18-30 years old, particularly those facing multiple barriers
  • 2+ years’ experience with workshop facilitation/lesson planning
  • 2+ years’ experience with college counseling or college access support
  • 2+ years’ experience working with system involved young adults
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with youth development frameworks and familiar with Restorative Justice and trauma-responsive approaches
  • Able to provide a consistent, professional, and positive relationship to the participants we serve
  • Able to work well under pressure and seek help when needed
  • Able to work in ambiguity; innovative, flexible, nimble, self-motivated, self-directed
  • Valid California Driver’s License and access to an insured, registered and operational vehicle to use for work purposes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and database software.
  • Ability to scan, edit and create PDF files and experience with shared files
  • Ability to be on call

  • Ability to assess crisis situations and initiate action independently and without direction
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines
  • Familiar with working with the local community college networks and or career pathways.
  • Willingness and ability to take initiative
  • Ability to empathize with colleagues and individuals from a racial, ethnic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, academic and cultural diversity backgrounds

Reentry Career & Academic Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Conduct in depth overview of Career Action Plan (CAP) with participant to promote academic and employment objectives
  • Conduct in-person coaching sessions with participants to monitor progress of CAP’s
  • Collaborate with case managers for effective case planning
  • Refer participants to additional services and programs and accompany them as necessary
  • Utilize industry standards to advise participants toward careers of interest and of growth
  • Advise participants on career paths using industry standards
  • Develop both short term and long term educational and career plans using work readiness assessments
  • Troubleshoot work site issues with participants, support and empower them to resolve workplace conflicts, provide one on one training as needed
  • Be available for participants who have completed active participation in the program to continue and assist in job coaching and advising, as needed
  • Responsible for maintaining case notes on each client; accurately and regularly input data into database system, spreadsheets and funder databases to maintain participant information in accordance with BACR’s standards and any program-specific funder(s)’ requirements
  • Facilitate case conferencing sessions with stakeholders, collecting updates and additional data on participants
  • Complete evaluations, reports, and assessments as required
  • Provide program updates and track progress against deadlines
  • Represent BACR at workforce meetings

Career & Academic Services

  • Coordinate career and employment readiness workshops
  • Create curriculum focused on in-demand and hidden career sectors
  • Write character and recommendation letters for participants, especially for court purposes
  • Lead Career Pathway projects, such as; career panels, college trips, career advisory board, college
  • success labs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high schools, GED services, colleges, vocational training, CTE
  • programs, organizations, institutes, community partners, and employers
  • Conduct your role as a youth development practitioner; act in accordance with BACR Best Practices
  • Conduct industry-focused assessments to gauge participants’ readiness for various career pathways

Academic Support and College Access

  • Collaborate with external service providers to ensure participants develop and maintain their educational and wellness plans
  • Provide support to first-year college students, focusing on maximizing financial aid and minimizing loan debt
  • Empower participants to make informed financial decisions about post-secondary options
  • Monitor academic progress and provide counseling based on progress reports and report cards
  • Assist participants through the college enrollment process, including navigating the UC and CSU systems and completing the FAFSA application
  • Model and teach effective problem-solving, self-advocacy, academic mindset, self-regulation, persistence, and positive behavior
  • Serve as primary contact for post-secondary education and/or vocational trainings resources in San Francisco
