JOB SUMMARY

Covalent Solutions (Covalent) is seeking a mission driven, highly motivated and collaborative Technical Writer who is truly excited about contributing to building great products to support one of our clients at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for creating clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation that explains complex technical concepts to various audiences. The role involves writing manuals, guides, articles, and other forms of documentation that help users understand and effectively use products, systems, and services.

This opportunity is full-time with Covalent and is on-site in Rockville, Maryland.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the project manager to define success metrics and criteria.
  • Ensuring the program/project meets success parameters and business objectives stated in the project plan and charter.
  • Providing transparency and communication on project status and risks to project stakeholders.
  • Ensures that users have access to accurate, useful, and easy-to-understand information, enabling them to effectively use and troubleshoot products and services.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Information Technology, Computer Science, Science, English or Business Administration.

Work Experience

  • 5+ Experience with Agile methodology.
  • 5+ years of the following
    • Content Creation
      • Documentation Development:
        • Write and maintain user manuals, how-to guides, API documentation, FAQs, and other technical documents.
        • Create content for both print and digital formats, including online help, websites, and software interfaces.
      • Instructional Materials:
        • Develop training materials, including tutorials, e-learning modules, and instructional videos.
        • Create quick start guides and reference materials to support user training and onboarding.
    • Research and Analysis
      • Subject Matter Expertise:
        • Research and gather information from subject matter experts (SMEs), developers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
        • Stay updated with the latest technologies, tools, and industry trends relevant to the products being documented.
      • Technical Understanding:
        • Analyze technical information, product specifications, and software code to understand and explain functionality.
        • Test and use the products being documented to gain practical experience and insights.
        • Content Organization and Management
      • Information Architecture:
        • Organize and structure documentation to ensure logical flow and easy navigation.
        • Use templates, style guides, and standards to maintain consistency and quality across all documents.
      • Content Management Systems:
        • Manage documentation repositories and version control using content management systems (CMS) or document management tools.
        • Track and update documentation revisions, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
    • Editing and Review
      • Proofreading and Editing:
        • Review and edit documentation for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and style.
        • Ensure technical accuracy and adherence to organizational standards.
      • Peer Review:
        • Collaborate with team members to review and provide feedback on documentation.
        • Participate in documentation review cycles, incorporating feedback from stakeholders and SMEs.
    • User Experience and Design
      • Usability Testing:
        • Conduct usability testing of documentation to gather feedback from end-users.
        • Make improvements based on user feedback to enhance the clarity and effectiveness of the content.
      • Visual Aids:
        • Create and incorporate diagrams, screenshots, charts, and other visual aids to support and enhance written content.
        • Use graphic design tools to produce high-quality visual content.
    • Collaboration and Communication
      • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
        • Work closely with product managers, developers, engineers, customer support, and marketing teams to gather information and understand documentation needs.
        • Participate in project meetings and collaborate on product development to ensure documentation requirements are met.
      • Communication Skills:
        • Explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language that can be understood by non-technical audiences.
        • Provide clear and concise updates on documentation progress and timelines to stakeholders.
    • Continuous Improvement
      • Process Improvement:
        • Continuously evaluate and improve documentation processes, tools, and methodologies.
        • Implement best practices for technical writing and documentation management.
      • Professional Development:
        • Stay current with industry standards, tools, and best practices in technical writing.
        • Attend workshops, training sessions, and conferences to enhance writing skills and technical knowledge.
