POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for reviewing and underwriting mortgage loans. Identifies, analyzes, and evaluates loan risk and compensating factors to ensure the marketability of closed loans while protecting the integrity of the Credit Union. Approving, suspending, or denying loan applications. Ensuring that loans are approved by the Credit Union's standards and procedures, as well as regulatory and compliance underwriting guidelines with any other secondary market requirements. Clearly and concisely communicates conditions to Mortgage Department staff.


IMPORTANT NOTE:

This is not a remote position.
This will be in-person, full-time, at our Operations Center in West Chester, OH.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & BASIC DUTIES

  • Verifies two-years of employment history and confirms that all income used is qualifying is expected to continue for at least three-years.
  • Assesses hourly income, overtime, bonuses, and commissions used to qualify.
  • Analyzes tax returns, income statements, and balance sheets of self-employed applicants.
  • Evaluates borrower's credit report. Reviews payment history and debt obligations, investigates derogatory credit, and calculates debt ratios based off documented income and liabilities.
  • Confirms that all lending conditions have been satisfactorily met prior to closing.
  • Identifies as needed, Trust information, Divorce Decrees/Separation Agreements, Lien Releases, Affidavits, Surveys, etc. and reviews them once available.
  • Assists and supports Credit Union and Mortgage Loan Department personnel regarding policies, procedures, compliance, and guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • A minimum of one of the following: (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship.
  • Completion of 24 hours of mortgage underwriting training and successful passing of proctored exam for NAMU-CMMU certification.

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of financial statements, credit reports, tax returns, appraisals, and titles.
  • Full understanding of conventional/secondary underwriting requirements and TRID.
  • Knowledge of Credit Union lending programs, policies, procedures, and standards.

Experience Required:

  • Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
  • Processing and/or Underwriting: 3-5 years.
  • Automated Underwriting System: 6+ months.
  • Manual Underwriting: 6+ months.
  • LOS System: 6+ months.
  • Conventional, Construction, Wholesale Loans: 6+ months.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and public relations skills.
  • Sound credit judgement.
  • Strong math abilities.
  • Good organizational skills and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to use all related computer applications.
  • Ability to operate required computer applications, keyboards, calculators, and other basic business machines.
