Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSUMMARY:
The Safety Manager provides expertise in safety matters, while developing and managing relevant programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The individual leads efforts to improve safety performance and training, while working to reduce/eliminate worker injuries and associated costs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plans, implements, and manages safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, and financial losses
• Leads safety initiatives and efforts focused on building and enhancing the corporate safety culture to optimize safety performance
• Manages all accident and near-miss investigations for potential root cause; presents investigation data to the Safety Committee
• Chairs Safety Committee, participates in brainstorming incidents/safety issues and in recommending corrective/preventative actions; completes and disseminates Safety Committee Minutes assigning Champions and respective target dates
• Acts as safety support specialist and conducts onsite regulatory audits for three other Baker sites by providing technical and regulatory knowledge to ensure occupational safety compliance at the respective sites, as part of a zero incident mindset
• Conducts or directs research studies to identify hazards and evaluate loss producing potential of given systems, operations or processes such as air monitoring
• Conducts on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices and works with site management to abate, correct and train on hazards identified
• Provides workers compensation management including completion/submittal of WKC-12 First Reports, individual case investigation and management of claims, Temporary Duty Return-to-Work program, testify as witness in cases that go to hearing, collaborate with carrier to initiate, develop and implement loss control measures
• Maintains liaison with external organizations including medical, insurance, fire, and regulatory entities to assure information exchange and mutual assistance
• Manages Emergency Planning and Evacuation program and Fire Prevention plan through the development of required drills, keeping current emergency evacuation maps, annual training, and coordination of fire extinguisher training
• Manages Hearing Conservation program including sound level/dosimeter testing, annual hearing tests/tracking for potential STSs, and regulated training/PPE
• Manages Respiratory Protection Program including tracking/updating medical testing requirements, conducting fit-test, and providing regulated training
• Develops, keeps current, and provides mandatory-regulated training, as wells as non-regulated, to affected parties on safety subjects/programs such as Hazard Communication /GHS compliance, Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO), Bloodborne Pathogen, class-room Powered Industrial Truck, Personal Protective Equipment, and Injury Reporting Procedures
• Coordinates training with SMEs in electrical, abrasive wheel, certified first aid responders, and other safety topics.
• Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors and injury rates for occupational illnesses and accidents, and prepares graphs, reports, etc.
• Responsible for OSHA Logs/Recordkeeping and annual DOL/OSHA Survey.
• Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or WORK EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or related field is required. At least five years’ experience in safety is required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software is also required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPETENCE, AWARENESS AND TRAINING:
Competence, awareness, and training for probationary employees will be assessed by the “Training & Competency Checklist,” the evaluation conducted at 90 days, as well as other training as needed. Competence, awareness, and training for regular employees will be assessed when annual evaluations are conducted, along with other measurements in accordance with the area the employee is assigned to
