Community Outreach Specialist – Portland, OR Metro Area (Remote and/or Hybrid Position)

What we are looking for

The Community Outreach Specialist will play a key role in shaping and executing the outreach strategy for the Portland, OR metro area, focusing on engaging residential utility customers with energy efficiency programs. This role involves building new and strengthening existing community relationships, working closely with program teams to achieve high-quality engagement. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, highly organized individual who can adapt communication styles across diverse settings. They should thrive in a dynamic environment that requires both creativity and consistency in program delivery. Strong organizational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills are essential.

The position will engage with many community and business leaders around the city and must have a driver's license and a vehicle. We reimburse mileage for events and any long-distance driving.

While experience in energy, clean energy, renewable energy, and/or energy efficiency is preferred, it is not required. However, a willingness to be curious and learn on the job about energy efficiency and this program’s specific design and offerings is required and expected.

Job Duties

They are responsible for initiating and sustaining community relationships to further the objectives of the program. which can include: working as a conduit for community voice and program teams where needed; maintaining open and consistent communication with the team and with stakeholders; accurately representing the experiences and learnings from the field when participating in program design and update conversations.

This person is expected to meet with formal and informal community leaders, identify and attend local events, develop and co-host local events, visit retail locations to connect with managers and update collateral, and coordinate special projects. They will be traveling around 50%-75% of the time to perform these responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

· Represent the client and the program at public facing events

· Attend project meetings and disseminate information to appropriate parties.

· Build on understanding of energy efficiency industry and how it relates to this work

· Maintain strong ongoing communications with community leaders and organizations

· Assess community needs, receive feedback and implement enhancements

· Communicate program participation requirements and facilitate contractor program enrollments

· Prepare deliverables for management and clients, report activity in the market and document interactions with stakeholders

Job Requirements

· 4-8 years of relevant work experience is essential.

· Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for required travel throughout the territory.

· Commitment to learning about energy efficiency and program design.

· Team-oriented, adaptive, and client-focused.

· Ability to work independently and effectively communicate task progress.

· Experience in stakeholder engagement.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Preferred proficiency in presentation and public speaking.

· Highly proficient in Microsoft Office apps, including Word, Excel, and OneNote.

· Experience in writing detailed and descriptive reports.

· Organized and process oriented.

· Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends for community outreach events.
