Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Job Location: Dayton, Tennessee (no relocation offered for this position)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Shift: Monday - Thursday 4 - 10 hrs

On-Site position, no virtual or remote work


SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineer will work to improve the processes of making our product, i.e. designing, new equipment, processes, procedures and systems, purchasing and overseeing installation of equipment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Including but not limited to:

  • Safety
    1. Promote a “Zero Injury” culture
    2. Assist department head in injury reduction through engineered solutions that eliminate or reduce the exposure to hazards
  • Quality
    1. Implement and maintain standardized work, CTQs and process control plans
    2. Assist department head to develop and implement training plans to develop the skills of the team
  • Delivery
    1. Write and maintain work instructions and line balance charts based on production levels
    2. Support new product introductions and engineering project launches in department
  • Cost
    1. Propose, investigate, and lead capital projects to incorporate automation and technological improvements in the fabrication department
    2. Maintain labor standards and routings
  • Continuous Improvement
    1. Collect, analyze and present cost data for the department to lead improvement in SQDC
    2. Support the KPI process to accurately measure performance and drive daily improvement in SQDC
    3. Effectively identify problems, utilize root cause analysis and problem solving tools to implement corrective measures
    4. Develop and utilize value stream map for department to identify and plan kaizen activity
    5. Participate in regular kaizen activity for improvement

EDUCATION an/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing support role
  • Capital project management experience desired
  • TPS/Lean and or Six Sigma certification is a plus
  • Metal stamping, coatings, and/or welding experience is a plus
  • High volume, discreet manufacturing experience is a plus

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Utilize effective verbal and written communication with all levels of the organization to build trust and encourage cooperation toward common goals
  • Strong change management skills and demonstrated experience changing a culture to a Lean environment.
  • Experience successfully leading and directing employees who are not direct reports.
  • Significant experience in complex Lean principals such as JIT, Heijunka, etc.
  • Personal experience in leading more than 5 Kaizen events.
  • Demonstrated impact that translated to clear, bottom line performance results with step-function change
  • Formal Lean training from an "academy" organization - either from consulting training (i.e. Shingijutsu, TBM) or via organizations with deep, well-established lean operating systems (Toyota, Danaher, Daikin, etc)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit and use hands and fingers to reach or operate a computer and telephone keyboard. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Position type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position on a 4-10 hour work schedule (Mon-Thurs). Due to the nature and demands of this role, flexibility is required to work outside of normal work schedule.
  • This is an on-site, full-time position.
