We are seeking a detail-oriented and resourceful individual to join our infectious disease office as a Medical Records Clerk and Prior Authorization Specialist. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate and confidential patient records, as well as facilitating insurance pre-authorizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize, file, and maintain patient medical records in a secure and organized manner.

Ensure the accuracy and completeness of patient information, including demographics, medical history, test results, and treatment plans.

  • Process requests for medical records in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, ensuring proper authorization and documentation.
  • Retrieve and prepare patient charts for healthcare providers and staff in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the scanning and indexing of paper documents into the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
  • Perform regular audits to identify and correct any inconsistencies or errors in patient records.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and staff to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Assist with insurance verification, pre-authorization, and referral processes as needed.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers and healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate pre-authorizations for medical procedures and treatments.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain the confidentiality and security of patient information.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as data entry, correspondence, and scheduling appointments as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a medical records clerk, prior authorization specialist, or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, diagnoses, and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software, including electronic medical records (EMR) and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
