We are seeking a Skilled Application Support Specialist who will be responsible for administering, updating and troubleshooting commercial and in-house developed production applications and websites, and assisting with complex Excel functions and report writing based upon the support needs of our Accounting, Actuarial, Claims, Data Science, Risk Engineering, Sales and Underwriting departments. The Application Support Specialist will be responsible for providing technical support to end-users, debugging and resolving software issues, and documenting software processes.

 

Major Functions/Responsibilities:

· Assist with the development, deployment, management and enhancement of corporate IT systems.

· Participate in the development of IT systems and applications utilizing cloud technologies like Microsoft Azure.

· Manage and optimize various servers including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft SQL, Linux, etc.

· Assist in troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose server, database, application and website related issues.

· Monitor IT systems and optimize them using automation and monitoring toolsets.

· Perform capacity planning and be proactive in assessing and making improvement recommendations.

· Develop standard operating procedures, policies and documentation for the organization’s IT systems and server environments.

· Perform security checks on applications, servers, databases and websites in order to ensure a secure and stable environment.

· Review status of security requirements and controls for systems, then recommend and implement remediation efforts.

· Maintain user accounts; i.e. adds, changes, deletes, etc, and set client computer standards for access to IT systems.

· Assist with the analysis, design, development, deployment, management and enhancement of corporate reports.

· Utilize complex Excel features like pivot tables, VLOOKUP, dynamic charts, indexing, dashboards, conditional formatting, etc.

· Assess, document and make improvement recommendations for reports and datasets.

· Train end-users on software applications.

· Serve as backup to other IT staff members; other duties assigned as necessary.

 

Requirements/Skills:

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.

· 2 or more years of professional hands-on experience supporting complex corporate applications.

· Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications like Excel and Word.

· SQL knowledge and ability to query databases.

· Strong knowledge of at least one currently supported programming language

· Strong knowledge of VBA is a plus.

· Experience with CRM solutions like SugarCRM.

· Familiarity with business intelligent systems and report-writing tools like Tableau.

· Experience with relational databases and SQL queries utilizing Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, etc.

· Familiarity with cloud service providers and services like Microsoft Azure.

· Knowledge managing server operating systems, web servers and related services.

· Proficiency with various virtualization technologies like Microsoft Azure Virtual Machine.

· Understanding of Microsoft Active Directory domain services and single sign-on services.

· Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.

· Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time in a collaborative environment.

· Have a passion for learning new technologies and staying current in industry trends.

· Ability to take ownership and see tasks through to completion.

· Ability to produce quality deliverables against specified timelines.
