Product Development Engineer

 

The position for Product Development Engineer (PDE) is responsible for managing design, prototyping, and testing a product's development. This includes the integration of all iMBranded product lines, architectural millwork, large format graphics, and future product lines. Product development engineers must be able to conceptualize ideas, design those ideas in a 3-D modeling program, and specify accurate design properties. They must also be able to plan the steps of going from conceptualization to final product and be able to implement in a timely manner to match client milestones. Before the final product, product development engineers must determine the materials needed to create the product, potential designs, prototyping, testing, and assist in marketing of the product. During the production process, these engineers must document and write reports on the current status of the product. PDE leads or attends various product design/development reviews and must be able to collaborate with all cross functional members of the design and production team

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include but are not limited to)

·         Taking client feedback and market research to determine the needs and goals of new products.

·         Successful integration of all iMBranded product lines that capture the requirements of our customers.

·         Interact directly with client to develop product concepts based on needs.

·         Consulting with subject matter experts to discuss cost estimates.

·         Identifying and quantifying all cost factors involved in the project and entering computer software for reporting and communication.

·         Proven ability to prioritize, plan, and drive multiple complex projects concurrently from development to completion. Ensures project schedule adherence and delivery of products per defined specifications and cost targets.

·         Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and influence cross-functional teams, as well as work independently all while adapting to a changing environment

·         Continuously looks to improve processes related to productivity, quality, purchasing and manufacturing to optimize overall product cost.

·         Supports projects with carrying out a thorough, efficient and competent design review with discipline leads and specialists

·         Performing and/or understanding new market research to understand market requirements for new product development.

·         Defining and delivering product specifications and procedures to the manufacturing team for production purposes.

·         Analyzing existing products to identify areas for improvement and updating current documentation.

·         Supporting millwork production and engineering with clarification and updates on new product designs; including (if needed) direct support on engineering activities for current production project needs

·         Continue to support cabinet vision engineering work as a resource for engineering overflow. 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES (include but are not limited to)

·         Proficiency with computers and the MS Office Suite including Excel

·         Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related discipline.

·         One to two years of applicable experience preferred.

·         Knowledge of engineering fundamentals required.

·         Proficient use of 3D CAD with emphasis on Solidworks, Cabinet Vision, MS Office, etc. Learning uses of LEAN & Six Sigma methodology and practices such as standard work, time study, cause & effect, 5WHY analysis and other tools.

·         Ability to communicate verbally, in written form and through sketches, and engineering drawings. Works well in cross-functional team environments.

·         Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including presenting, and the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas in ways that simplify and engage.

·         Exhibits sound business judgment and high integrity; a proven ability to positively influence others; strong analytical skills and business acumen; and a proven track record of taking ownership, driving action, and meeting commitments.

·         Strong professional presence with high credibility.

·         The ability to work effectively autonomously, with little oversight

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

·         Some minor exposure to saw dust created in product fabrication

·         General office setting

·         Minor exposure to the sounds of a variety of shop machinery (saws, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (include but are not limited to)

·         The ability to stay seated for extended periods working at a computer

·         Will occasionally walk around to coordinate work or engage coworkers
