The Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance (NAFSA) is a national network of Indigenous leaders dedicated to restoring food systems that support tribal self-determination and community wellness. NAFSA’s mission is to support Native communities nationally with advocacy, education, and networking as they revitalize their Indigenous food systems. NAFSA brings together proven strategies with innovative thinking as we support ethical economic development by promoting expanded local food production that renews natural resources and enhances traditional cultural activities to mentor a new generation of Native food sovereignty activists, chefs, farmers, and practitioners.  POSITION SUMMARY:The Grants Manager is responsible for writing grant proposals and reports and contributes to NAFSA’s overall grant management process. While primarily managing grant writing and reporting, this position will also be responsible for supporting funder communications and fundraising campaigns. As a part of the development team, the Grants Manager will work closely with the Director of Development and Executive staff to support building and maintaining authentic relationships with community and corporate foundations, government agencies, and other philanthropic partners.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
●        Outline, draft, and edit grant proposals and reports for private, community, corporate foundations, government agencies, etc. ●        Collaborate with the Director of Development to develop and translate NAFSA’s vision, and mission into proposals ●        Maintain data files for grant documentation and reporting●        Submit all assigned grants and reports in a timely manner ●        Attend and contribute to monthly grants management meetings ●        Maintain the annual grants calendar ●        Develop and implement NAFSA’s Lifecycle of a Grant SOP and donor equity guidelines ●        Monitor compliance with relevant federal, state, and local guidelines ●        Keep acknowledgement letters updated and ensure all funders receive timely acknowledgements●        Contribute to the creation and implementation of the annual fundraising strategic plan ●        Maintain and strengthen relationships with philanthropic partners, follow up on requests, move funding conversations forward, and support periodic one-on-one check-ins with funders ●        Provide thought partnership and support to the development team in establishing and strengthening relationships with a diverse group of funders ●         Collaborate with the Board of Directors Fundraising Committee as it relates to grants and donor engagement ●        Assist NAFSA staff with development of the Annual Report and seasonal mailings ●        Represent NAFSA in their region by allocating time to articulate our mission at meetings/conferences and gatherings, meet with potential and current funders, conduct listening sessions, and in whatever ways help us fulfill our mission.●        Other duties as assigned  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
●        Demonstrated commitment to the principles and priorities of the NAFSA●        Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, in English ●        Well-organized, detail-oriented, and capable of meeting short term deadlines while advancing multiple projects with long term goals ●        Background and familiarity with agriculture, Indigenous food sovereignty, and rural and diverse land-based tribal communities is strongly preferred ●        Committed to equity and justice in the Indigenous food sovereignty movement; familiarity with Indigenous agriculture or willingness to learn ●        High level of professionalism and exceptional interpersonal skills ●        Demonstrated ability to work as a team member as well as the ability to work independently in a collaborative environment ●        Willingness to travel to quarterly staff retreats and occasional program events  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education Required:    Associate DegreeEducation Preferred:  Bachelor’s Degree
 Experience: At least five years of experience working in fundraising, including a successful record for grant writing, grant reporting, and grant management OR a combination of education and experience may be considered as a substitute for degree requirement. Computer Skills: Knowledge of various technology platforms such as Google Suite, MS Office, Zoom, and database management.
