General Position Summary:

Provides senior level management and leadership for all commercial operations and provides business support for all sales-related activities. Works closely with the CEO and management team to accomplish strategic goals and objectives; represents Garten positively and professionally in the community. Adds value to the organization by implementing best practices and progressive initiatives, process improvement, employee and leadership development, and by leading and managing company-wide requirements in safety, housekeeping and total quality implementation.

This is a senior level management position and as such is expected to model the organization’s vision, mission, and values both within and outside the organization.

 

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Provides senior level management and operational leadership of the Commercial Operations divisions through, but not limited to, the following activities:

  • Provides direction and support to managers within the divisions.
  • Provides business support for all sales-related activities
  • Ensures that services to those which Garten is contracted to serve are progressive and reflect Garten’s values.
  • Promotes, embraces, models, and encourages diversity, equity, and inclusion in decision-making processes.
  • Applies systems thinking and quality improvement processes in day-to-day business.
  • Maintains annual process control and inspections on capital management assets and provides recommendations and support for new capital investment in commercial operations.
  • Ensures divisions are in compliance with all safety policies/rules and governmental regulations.
  • Provides assistance in development of marketing support to meet individual business objectives
  • Develops and maintains data reporting systems
  • Develops and maintains positive contacts with customers, prospects, and partners
  • Provides total quality training and ensures implementation
  • Maintains knowledge of state purchasing requirements and contract language
  • Develops and maintains positive and professional working relationships with community leaders, partners, customers, and government officials
  • Ensures that commercial operations departments develop and coordinate work flows and processes so that integrated employment opportunities are provided for people with disabilities
  • Serves as a member of the management team in the development and execution of short and long range plans and budgets, based on strategic and operational goals
  • Acts as a positive role model

 

Secondary Functions:

  • Provides coverage of supervised functions on a day-to-day basis in the absence of a respective business manager
  • Attends meetings and participates on committees/teams as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Job Scope:

Performs duties with little direction given, working within established policies or responsible for developing policies and procedures for approval by CEO or Board of Directors. Decisions are made with broad interpretation of applicable laws, governmental guidelines, company policies and procedures.

Fiscal responsibilities include budget preparation, controlling costs, and managing an operating budget. The position is totally accountable for the control of capital assets for all areas under direct control.

This position is responsible for long-range operational planning and is also held accountable, as a member of the management team, for strategic planning efforts of the organization.

This position has a major impact and influence on the credibility and integrity of Garten as well as having a significant financial impact.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Full supervisory responsibility for the direct report staff and indirect supervisory responsibilities for line staff in each business. This responsibility includes employee assignment, development, evaluation, coaching, mentoring and/or discipline, approving any absences or overtime, training, and making any recommendations for hiring, terminations, pay changes, and job changes.

Positions which report directly to this director: Business Managers and Branch Managers. All other division staff report indirectly to this position.

 

Interpersonal Contacts:

Regular contact with others both inside and outside the organization. The most common internal contacts are with other divisions or locations and the management team. The most frequent external contacts are with customers. Internal and external interactions involve complex information exchange, problem solving, negotiation, consultation, and selling.

All contacts are usually made at the employee's own initiative with 50% of the contacts being over the telephone and 50% face to face. Contacts frequently contain confidential/sensitive information requiring discretion at all times.

  • Ability to interpret and analyze relevant laws, guidelines, and policies
  • Ability to perform advanced math and financial analyses
  • Ability to pay attention to detail to concentrate on a specific function
  • Ability to think and act strategically and assertively
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and proof of current vehicle insurance
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand/wrist motion

 

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in business management with progressive responsibility which includes a minimum of 2 years experience at the upper or senior management level
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree specializing in Business Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Demonstrated successful sales experience desirable.
  • An additional 4 years of management at the senior management level may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.

 

Job Conditions:

This position requires the incumbent to work in an environment where there may be exposure to building temperature fluctuations, odors, noise, poor light and poor ventilation. Other working conditions may include: Frequent interruptions; extended working hours; evening/early morning meetings; working alone; extensive close work; pressure because of deadlines; contact with individuals with aggressive behaviors; and extensive computer work.
