JOB PURPOSE:

The Head Middle School Cross Country Coach is responsible for leading the middle school team and works collaboratively with the Head Varsity Coach. GDS is a member of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) and the Piedmont Triad Athletic Conference (PTAC). GDS competes for a conference championship in cross country.

The Head Middle School Coach models the GDS Community Cornerstones of Respect, Kindness, Integrity, and Responsibility.

This position has a variable schedule that requires regular evening and possible weekend hours. The official start date for this position is August 20, 2024, and runs through the conference championship on October 17, 2024. The middle school cross country team typically practices twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday on campus.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coaches the middle school team educating students on the rules of the game and proper etiquette following NFHS, PTAC and GDS guidelines

  • Maintains a clear practice schedule

  • Maintains equipment and inventory including team uniforms

  • Supervises students on bus to away matches, during practices, and home and away contests

  • Updates practice schedule and communications on my GDS

  • Communicates with parents each week on upcoming practice and game schedule

  • Completes and has an understanding of documents and courses related to coaching expectations, concussion awareness, GDS emergency action plans, and sudden cardiac emergency awareness

Position Requirements

  • Playing and/or coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, and/or professional level

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Daily work requires supervising students outdoors as well as indoors at times including traveling to away contests and events. Some weekend, evening, or early morning work may be required from time to time depending on the season schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

All coaches must be able to provide adequate supervision indoors and outdoors, and they must be able to ensure the safety of students during practices and contests or events. They must be able to move quickly and frequently from standing to sitting with ease and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to traverse various athletic grounds and facilities. This position has frequent exposure to loud sounds and high noise levels on a weekly basis.
