Communications Specialist
This position reports to the Communications Manager and is responsible for the effective management of external and internal communication projects, including writing creative content, collaborating with graphic designers, coordinating all deliverables, tracking requirements of the entire project team, and proactively identifying and mitigating any schedule risks.
The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to enhancing the BGE brand through compelling storytelling. This person will serve in a lead role to create and manage external communications efforts, including the firm’s social media strategy, website presence, awards submittals, speaking engagements, public relations and recruiting efforts. In addition, the person in this position will support other areas of the Marketing department.
The Communications Specialist is not a supervisory role. THIS IS AN OFFICE-BASED POSITION IN HOUSTON, TX.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage the updating of the intranet, social media and external website
- Social media content development and implementation, with an understanding of analytics
- Seek out and suggest innovative ideas for engaging external content.
- Interview technical staff and write content for announcements, press releases, articles, blog posts, presentations, scripts, abstracts.
- Proactively solicit content ideas internally and establish relationships with key contributors.
- Manage assigned communication projects from inception to completion, ensuring that all activities are effectively and efficiently coordinated and completed on time.
- Create and maintain a consistent voice for all communication materials.
- Interpret and synthesize complex information clearly and concisely for a variety of audiences.
- Proofreading of various works including papers, proposals, and award submissions
- Assist with other marketing efforts, as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or Marketing.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing communications or media/online strategy content creation.
- Experience with external communications and/or public relations programs including planning, execution, and measurement.
- Stellar writing and editing skills with the ability to articulate a clear point of view clearly and concisely on complicated topics.
- Familiarity with AP and technical style.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, a focused listener able to work quickly, thoughtfully, and collaboratively with different personalities.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments from conception to completion on deadline with minimal supervision; excellent attention to detail.
- Willingness and Ability to be based in our Houston, TX office 5 days per week, Monday through Friday.
