Position Purpose: The Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the JWCH DTLA Hotel Interim Housing Program during their assigned shift. This role involves supervising/leading staff, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for residents, and addressing any issues that arise during the shift. The Shift Lead will work closely with the Program Manager and other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the program and the well-being of all residents.

Program Population: The Downtown DTLA Hotel is an Interim Housing Program that helps homeless individuals in their recovery journey, helping them improve their health conditions and enhance their social and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills, all with the focus of securing stable housing opportunities. Some of these individuals may also experience mental health and substance abuse issues, which can occasionally result in behaviors such as yelling, using strong language, and displaying anger outbursts. The core responsibility of each staff member at the DTLA Hotel is to support clients in overcoming obstacles and improving their coping mechanisms.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and support staff during assigned shifts, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  2. Address any staff or resident issues promptly and escalate to the Program Manager as needed.
  3. Provides facility oversight during assigned shifts
  4. Coordinates with medical staff, maintaining good communication and partnership to ensure appropriate medical care and response to patient needs.
  5. Coordinates with Case Managers to ensure the schedule of Life Skills groups and activities to facilitate the rehabilitation and behavioral health of all patients
  6. Ensures appropriate and consistent documentation as required during assigned shifts
  7. Supports ongoing quality assurance and improvement activities
  8. Ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for all residents.
  9. Address resident concerns and needs, providing appropriate resources and referrals.
  10. Facilitate conflict resolution among residents and staff.
  11. Conduct regular safety checks and respond to any emergencies or incidents.
  12. Adhere to and enforce all safety and security protocols.
  13. Maintain accurate records and documentation, including incident reports and shift logs.
  14. Assist with scheduling and staffing needs.
  15. Coordinate and oversee daily activities and services provided to residents.
  16. Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the facility.
  17. Collaborate with the Program Manager to implement and improve program policies and procedures.
  18. Facilitate effective communication among staff, residents, and management.
  19. Conduct shift briefings and ensure proper handover between shifts.
  20. Promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
  21. Performs other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a housing or social services setting.
  3. Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations is preferred.
  4. Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to handle difficult situations with empathy and professionalism.
  7. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  9. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  10. Current and valid California ID
  11. Current BLS card from the American Heart Association
  12. Demonstrated understanding of the impact of trauma on behavioral and medical conditions
  13. Bilingual (English/Spanish) ability a plus.
