Summary

We are representing a prominent engineering firm seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer with a Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and a preferred Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in design and engineering, with a strong emphasis on building systems, structural analysis, and leadership in project management.

Responsibilities

  • Structural Systems Design: Design and implement structural systems for various projects, including public works (fire stations, police stations, airports), commercial buildings, schools, wastewater facilities, and private developments such as car dealerships, apartment buildings, and warehouses. Contribute to specialty projects including cruise ship islands, lighthouse towers, water slides, and bridges.

  • Project Leadership: Lead the design team, applying industry best practices to ensure the highest quality structural designs. Mentor junior engineers and manage project execution to meet deadlines and objectives.

  • Engineering Review & Compliance: Review engineering documents and specifications to ensure adherence to local and national codes, including Florida Building Code, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and AISC 360.

  • Value Engineering & Analysis: Provide value engineering to optimize project designs and costs. Conduct site investigations to analyze structural failures and provide reports with recommendations.

  • Building System Design: Design and analyze systems like post-tensioned floors, concrete columns, steel structures, masonry, and wood-framed systems. Use finite element modeling to assess building performance in terms of vibrations, deflections, and load capacity.

  • Software Proficiency: Utilize software including Risa Floor, Risa 3D, Etabs, Adapt Builder, and Revit Design Suite to develop and review structural 3D models. Experience with Enercalc, Decon, Descon brace, and S-Concrete is preferred.

  • Construction Documentation: Prepare detailed construction documents and perform final reviews of shop drawings and RFIs. Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure structural integrity and project success.

  • Site Visits & Inspections: Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and design specifications. Identify and resolve construction-related issues.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (preferred).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in structural design and engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes including Florida Building Code, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and AISC 360.
  • Proficiency in structural design software like Risa Floor, Etabs, Adapt Builder, and Revit Design Suite.
  • Experience in post-tensioned concrete systems, steel structures, masonry, and wood framing.
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
