SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Provides support to staff and functions as a liaison to parents, coordinates activities and programs for the Early Start Families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Provide in-person and telephone support to parents of children involved in Early Start, who are at risk for, or diagnosed with a developmental delay or disability. Support may include peer counseling, advocacy support, referrals to community programs, generic resources and provision of information and educational materials.

Greets visitors and assists them with accessing materials and resources offered by the Early Start Family Resource Center and in providing them with resources and referrals available through community and/or government programs. Provide specific guided support to parents of children in the Early Start program with accessing programs that will benefit their child’s health and development.

Scheduling, organizing and facilitating events, training sessions, volunteer activities, etc. Specific meeting responsibilities include a parent support and education group and Early Start parent orientation both held monthly, along with Play-dates and Transition Trainings held quarterly.

Performs a variety of coordination, clerical, record keeping, data entry and communications functions.

Receives and directs all telephone calls and referrals, and maintains all documentation associated with its activity.

Maintains and acquires updated FRC information and materials as well as updates database on all resource center information.

Participates in meetings at the request of manager, staff or parents.

Performs telephone and agency/outreach to community organizations, parent support groups and service delivery agencies.

Creates collateral materials for agency events, presentations and publications.

Will delegate assignments and assist with provisional duties for college student interns, as needed.

Assists families and community agencies with facilitating referrals for regional center service eligibility.

Participates on community advisory board committees and will establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with service agencies and community programs.

Conducts early developmental screenings utilizing the Ages and Stages Questionnaire and additional screening tools, as required.

Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily including maintaining timelines. An individual must also be proficient in the use of computer applications. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma and 3 years of experience in a Human Service agency or an A.A. Degree and 1 year of experience. Experience working with individuals in the field of developmental disabilities preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

An applicant who is a parent of a child with a developmental disability or a child who is at risk of a disability is desirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to families, consumers, the community and employees of the organization. Ability to read, write and communicate verbally in Spanish required.
