The Peer Recovery Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Recovery Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer to peer relationships.

Peer Recovery Specialist essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Work as a team with the Behavioral Health Department, providers and all other WRH staff.
  • Maintain on-going communication with the Behavioral Health Department, providers and all other WRH staff
  • Coordinate care for behavioral health patients as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention services and recommendations for treatment and refer as needed
  • Engage patients and families in their treatment, recovery with coaching efforts to develop and maintain health & wellness
  • Organize and implement activities inclusive of behavioral health events, speaking engagements, dissemination of written materials.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and trainings at Wood River Health (or virtually) and in the community as needed
  • Provide information and assist patients with resource acquisition related to housing, social, education, employment and/or other key life domain goals as needed
  • Provide outreach and follow-up with patients at regular intervals throughout episode s of care
  • Local travel to engage patients, meet with patients, attend community events, and/or connect patients to treatment on an as-needed basis
  • Organize and facilitate peer recovery support groups and educational workshops for patients and/or the community
  • Create engagement plans for hard-to-reach patients
  • Assist with data entry and collection of program documentation
  • Maintain thorough and timely documentation/charting
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters
  • Operate within the scope of the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act to safeguard the privacy of protected patient health information
  • Enliven and support the mission, vision, and values of Wood River Health
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures and Wood River Health Compliance Program Standards
  • Performing other duties as assigned to meet business needs

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Lived experience related to substance use and/or mental health treatment
  • Experience with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Assertive approach to problem-solving
  • Show initiative and be responsible for follow through
  • Comfort working with persons of differing backgrounds and socioeconomic circumstances
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of behavioral health treatment and reducing stigma
  • Ability to effectively use MS Office Suite, Internet, and email
  • The ability to travel to various locations is required. Must possess a valid, current State issued driver’s license, have reliable transportation and proof of current auto insurance at state minimum levels required.
  • Cultural sensitivity necessary to work with a diverse patient and staff population

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Obtain Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist within 12 months of hire


This position is grant funded.
