Job Summary:

The Shelter Coordinator is responsible for providing case management services to disaster victims and assisting them in the recovery process. This role requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough assessments of clients' disaster-related needs and develop individualized recovery plans.
  • Answer phone calls and direct clients to the appropriate assistance.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations, to facilitate access to resources and services.
  • Assist clients in applying for disaster assistance programs and other financial support mechanisms.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case files and documentation in compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge of disaster response and recovery strategies.
Qualifications:
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to work on site in Iowa and drive during operating hours to visit shelter locations.
  • Social work experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor during incidents.
  • Knowledge of social services resources and support systems is essential.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office is required.
Additional Details:
  • This is a temporary assignment expected to last up to 6 months.
  • Work hours are 8 hours per day, 5 days a week, with 30-minute lunch breaks and 2 15-minute breaks.
  • Work on weekends as needed.
