Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Recovery Support Specialist utilizes their personal journey of growth to inspire hope and recovery among individuals undergoing treatment and those in post-treatment phases.

This role involves establishing a nurturing and professional rapport with clients, serving as a mentor and positive role model. The Specialist will provide essential services in outreach, engagement, and transportation.

The aim is to empower clients to recognize and surmount challenges that hinder their full participation in recovery and achieving their parenting aspirations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular meetings with clients to address ongoing recovery challenges from a peer perspective.
  • Offer direct support, including transportation, assistance with paperwork, and accompanying clients to various appointments.
  • Provide support during crisis situations by being present with clients at critical appointments.
  • Assist clients in locating necessary community resources to fulfill their basic needs.
  • Engage with non-residential program participants in their communities, helping them adjust and discover local recovery resources.
  • Educate clients on self-help groups, securing sponsorship, and finding recovery support meetings that fit their schedules and childcare requirements.
  • Exemplify behaviors that align with the values of recovery from substance use disorders, including maintaining ethical standards and consistent attendance.
  • Support clients during their transition into and out of the program, including follow-up contact for those who leave against advice.
  • Provide coaching in daily living skills to enhance client independence.
  • Act as the liaison for in-house meetings, facilitate Alumna Meetings, and accompany clients to external meetings.
  • Assist with transportation logistics as needed.
  • Help plan and execute community events for Alumna.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address client needs effectively.
  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and ongoing education to enhance client care quality.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accurate records for all client interactions.
  • Deliver trauma-informed care to all clients.
  • Assist in organizing and supervising recreational activities for clients.
  • Perform additional routine administrative tasks, including filing and answering phones.
  • Attend weekly clinical meetings to discuss client progress.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Required to possess a current credential from an approved certification board, demonstrating expertise in ethics, advocacy, mentoring, and recovery support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to foster partnerships within the community.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills are required.
  • CPR certification can be obtained post-hire.
  • Attention to detail and a sense of humor are valued.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Capability to connect with women from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must demonstrate responsiveness while maintaining a supportive environment.
  • Ability to pass a background study and comply with relevant regulations.
  • Teamwork skills are essential.
  • Commitment to diversity and ability to engage with women from various backgrounds.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and mandated reporting laws.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate client needs.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • No DUIs in the last three years; no more than three moving violations or accidents in the past three years.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist through the appropriate board is necessary.
  • Personal experience in substance use recovery is mandatory.
  • A college degree in behavioral health is preferred.
  • Experience in substance use disorder and trauma-informed care is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in a 24-hour behavioral health setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Proficiency in using a telephone and computer.
  • Capability to climb stairs.
