ABOUT THE POSITION

The Greenlining Institute seeks a strategic, collaborative and visionary Chief of Staff to build on its legacy of advancing economic opportunity and empowering people of color. Reporting to and partnering with the President & CEO, the Chief of Staff will help the organization meet its ambitious short-term and long-term goals.

The Chief of Staff is the President's primary liaison and represents the President before a variety of internal and external constituencies. They will provide leadership and overall project and relationship management for key strategic projects between the Executive's Office and others. The Chief of Staff carries primary responsibility to provide the President with strategic counsel and guidance.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Strategic Planning and Alignment

  • Participates in organizational development and strategic planning activities to effectively advance Greenlining’s vision and strategy
  • Support the strategic planning process for the organization by acting as a project manager and ensuring alignment with the President and leadership team
  • Collaborates across functions to develop high-quality, proactive and responsive strategies for all project outcomes
  • Act as a key thought partner, brainstorming & identifying solutions to challenges
  • Coordinate implementation of strategic planning priorities, working in close collaboration with the leadership team, to ensure sufficient attention is directed to key strategic priorities with key internal and external constituencies

Communication

  • Provide communications support: drafting emails, letters, reports, memos, presentations, internal and external communications
  • Research, perform benchmarking, analyze data, create presentations and make recommendations on special projects
  • Ensure that the President is well informed and briefed in advance of meetings and other engagements
  • Develop and/or review items for the President's signature, formulating recommendations and presenting options, and drafting responses
  • Represent the President in meetings, on standing and ad-hoc committees, and in external meetings as needed

Event and Project Management

  • Plan leadership team retreats, developing objectives and agenda, coordinating with executive assistant on logistics
  • Oversee meeting preparation and planning for Board of Directors; support President in managing interactions with board chair and committee leaders
  • Coordinate meetings and briefings with disparate stakeholders and the President, participating as required, and managing follow-ups
  • Organize company retreats, conferences, and other special events
  • Supervise administrative support staff in the Office of the President to ensure that efforts are aligned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong understanding of racial justice issues and commitment to championing causes that serve low-income and communities of color
  • 5+ years of experience in program management, project management and working in a high pace nonprofit environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree in a related field strongly preferred
  • Ability to manage complex projects with multiple moving pieces, stakeholders, and deadlines; demonstrated excellence in organizational, planning, and facilitation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to confidently speak and represent the organization or produce materials for the President’s office
  • Systems and process-thinker; loves creating order out of chaos
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including flexibility and the ability to listen, negotiate and collaborate with various stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and be both creative and strategic when confronted with complex and multifaceted opportunities and challenges
  • Understanding of organizational development and change management
  • Ability to exercise discretion, sound judgment and the highest professional ethics
  • Proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as needed, to meetings and conferences throughout the state and possibly other locations

The scope of responsibilities is not limited to those listed above and may change as organizational needs evolve. Specific work plan goals are developed each year to inform performance targets.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary based on experience. Competitive benefits including health, vision and dental insurance premiums covered at 100% for employee and dependents as well as Life and Long-Term Disability Insurance. We provide a 5% annual salary match that is immediately vested to your 401(k)-retirement plan. Work-life balance is supported with a 35-hour work week and hybrid work schedules. Many other generous paid time off programs including vacation, sick leave, paid parental leave and 14 paid Holidays.
