Position Overview: Chief Financial and Operations Officer

The Chief Financial and Operations Officer will be responsible for managing internal operations, financial oversight, grants, and compliance functions. This role will ensure adherence to internal controls and procedures regarding the management of federal and charitable funds, particularly in relation to advocacy and political activities.

This position will involve collaboration across our organization to maintain clear processes and uphold the distinctiveness of our various entities.

The Chief Financial and Operations Officer will lead the Business Development Operations Team, which is tasked with the implementation and maintenance of technology systems, administrative support, and office management.

Additionally, this role will oversee the Compliance Team, ensuring full adherence to non-profit regulations and managing the complexities of grants and contracts. Responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and monitoring legal agreements and providing essential information for funder reports.

Collaboration with the Chief Human Resources Officer will be crucial to ensure effective risk management and the maintenance of insurance coverage for all operations.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Chief Financial and Operations Officer will report directly to the Executive Director and will play a vital role in the strategic growth and marketing of our services.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will directly supervise the Director of Business Operations, Compliance Managers, and the Project Accountant.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Significant experience in financial compliance and operations management.
  • A minimum of 8 years in relevant fields, including grants and contract management.
  • Experience in a senior leadership role within a non-profit or social enterprise.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA).
  • Strong strategic thinking and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to build high-performing teams and manage organizational risks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
