The Role: Data Center Tech 1 

This full-time, entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to learn and grow their skills and responsibilities over time. A strong interest in and familiarity with computers is essential, while specific experience with relevant job tasks is desirable but not required. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Deploy and maintain servers and support infrastructure in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities. 

  • Provide exceptional customer support via email and ticketing systems, answering questions, troubleshooting problems, and delivering effective solutions. 

  • Thrive in a dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. 

  • Fix and install sophisticated circuits and perform custom installations 

  • Rack and stack customer equipment 

  • Read installation plans (Visio Drawings/Spreadsheets) and implement installations accordingly. 

  • Install circuits requiring sophisticated fiber terminations 

  • Resolve work priorities from a ticketing queue and ensure consistent contribution times 

  • Troubleshoot switched/multiplexed/media-converted circuits and escalated to the networking group as needed 

  • Work with customers to troubleshoot issues 

  • Install, test, and modify cross-connects per SOPs and ensure accurate cable management of coax, fiber, twisted pair copper, and intra-building cross-connects 

  • Maintain detailed written records of all work activity 

  • Design and lead cage/infrastructure modification projects 

 

Additional Requirements: 

  • Available to work weekdays and weekends, with shifts including 2nd shift, 3rd shift, and mixed shifts 

  • Position requires on-site work and may occasionally require overtime 

  • Two weeks of training during 1st shift (9 am to 5 pm) 

  • Ability to perform all essential job functions, including walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, and manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation 

  • Able to lift heavy equipment/items up to 50 pounds 

  • Able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays, if needed and/or required 

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills 

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software 

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment 

 

Education and Experience: 

High school diploma or equivalent.
