Role Description

 

The VCS Ecosystem Development Director will be responsible for identifying, sourcing, and analyzing global strategic partnerships/alliances, venture investments, and acquisitions with the world’s leading commercial payment companies and fintechs. The VCS Ecosystem Development lead will work closely with Product, Finance, regional, corporate development, and Ventures teams to create partnership programs that can be executed by local teams and find and evaluate acquisition / venture investment opportunities. They will drive pipeline development and evaluation of companies that are well positioned for commercial agreements or investment through Visa Ventures. The role will operate globally, covering each of Visa’s key regions including North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Europe, and Central Europe, Middle East and Africa.

 

Essential Functions

  • Lead market research to help identify investment trends and opportunities related for Commercial Solutions
  • Identify and engage with next-gen ecosystem players across the commercial financial services and digital commerce value chain with which Visa can partner, invest, or acquire. Attend industry events, and build relationships with industry experts and influencers (e.g. VCs) to source opportunities
  • Evaluate opportunities by gathering information on the target companies, researching potential competitors, evaluating the target company’s technology, assessing potential synergies or overlaps with existing Visa capabilities, etc.
  • Perform high level valuation analyses via modelling and prepare internal company profiles along with investment summaries
  • Identify and engage companies, and support structuring commercial terms and developing the investment rationale for potential Visa Ventures investments
  • Partner with regional teams and product teams to develop partnership programs that are scalable across different regions in priority areas
  • Engage with cross-functional teams (Finance, Sales, Ventures, Legal, etc.) to ensure that Digital Partner, FinTech, and Ventures initiatives are structured and executed within scope and on time.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
• 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications
• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• 7-9 years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree, 3+ years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g., Masters/MBA/JD/MD)
• Experience in Venture Capital, Investment Banking, Business Development, M&A consulting, or similar preferred
• Demonstrated success in identifying and executing strategic partner relationships
• Ability to think future state, and identify and engage with high-growth digital companies through complex commercial deals
• Experience building sound business and investment cases
• Experience developing partnership programs
• Deep understanding or significant interest in the global digital/FinTech landscape, key trends, and players globally
• Understanding of B2B payments ecosystem preferred but not required
• Strong understanding of or ability to quickly learn Visa products, solutions, and capabilities with the ability to embed this understanding into partner discussions, commercial agreements, etc.
• Ability and experience in presenting and influencing senior leaders without fear of challenging the status quo
• Ability to build and nurture relationships at the founder/management team level with FinTech companies, Digital Partners, etc.
• Excellent partner-facing communication and presentation skills
• A track record of working cross functionally and delivering measurable results, while managing internal and external stakeholders
• Hands-on, entrepreneurial, and nimble, while also able to navigate a globally matrixed environment



Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 163,800.00 to 237,550.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
