Title: Estimating Engineer

Department: Sales and Engineering

Reports to: Senior Director of Inside Sales & Estimating (IS&E)

Job Summary:

The Estimating Engineer provides technical and engineering assistance to both the national sales staff and branch locations within Mersino for various specialties such as Bypass Pumping, Dewatering and Environmental Trenching.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the bid-spec pipeline through various bid lead services, identify and estimate large national projects, and pass on to branches those projects uncovered in the territory
  • Point of contact for inbound customer calls, emails and leads, providing initial dialogue to gain information, ultimately passing along the leads to the appropriate branches
  • Perform plan take-offs; review and interpret project plans, requirements, and specifications to determine scope to develop detailed cost estimates following company practices and standards to ensure the estimate is well documented
  • Prepare design calculations in support of pumping systems
  • Maintain proper tracking of all opportunities requiring bids, ensuring that all projects are quoted before the bid date
  • Maintain a database/ history of construction bid opportunities to improve strike rate on bidding projects
  • Assist in preparing or reviewing budget estimates on larger projects early in the life cycle of an opportunity
  • Participate in project reviews, and post-mortem evaluations, providing analysis and feedback on estimates
  • On-site operational support on both national and branch-based projects where engineering services are required (pre-bids, construction meetings, testing, sampling, data collection, etc.)
  • Provide aid (write correspondence and notices, etc.) on projects that fall outside original scopes of work (i.e. differing site condition claims, change orders, etc.)
  • Prepare engineered project submittal packages including calculations and AutoCAD drawings for supporting documentation
  • Technical support for Global product lines (pumps, generators, accessories)
  • Develop and maintain databases that help facilitate the quoting process
  • CRM database auditing and maintenance as needed
  • Deliver necessary technical and job specific information to Marketing necessary for creating marketing tools
  • Help gather technical data on projects and create reports to summarize project details
  • Make sure that the Mersino Way is a guiding document in all daily activities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or geotechnical engineering, construction management, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field with the ability to demonstrate excellence in customer service
  • Work experience in the construction industry preferred; estimating experience a plus
  • Planning and organizational skills in handling multiple projects
  • Proficient in MS Office and other required PC software applications
