Job Description

The VP, SF Capital Markets and Trading will report to the VP of Single-Family Capital Markets and is responsible for providing liquidity to Fannie Mae’s customers and the broader market.  Specifically, the Vice President oversees the trading relationships with lenders, dealers, and investors. The Vice President for Markets and Trading manages the commitment of whole loans and the trading of Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS), performing best execution analysis and directing hedging strategies. Additionally, they are responsible for setting and implementing pricing terms for the single-family whole loan and mortgage-backed securities business. They balance investor relationships, market factors, legal and regulatory requirements, to provide liquidity to Fannie Mae Sellers. The Vice President for Markets and Trading is a highly visible position within Fannie Mae where, in addition to the liquidity-providing activities, it serves as liaison to other business units, is an active member of multiple cross-departmental working groups and furthers counterparty relationships by engaging lender and dealer, senior management teams.

The VP, SF Capital Markets and Trading role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the Single-Family Conduit whole loan, pool, and liquidity trading desks; ensure optimal risk management and value generation.
  • Set and implement pricing terms for single-family whole loan and mortgage-backed securities businesses.
  • Coordinate transactions and information sharing between Account Executives, Traders, technology teams, as well as the rest of the Single-Family Business.
  • Generate trading opportunities through proactive monitoring and assessment investor activity.
  • Facilitate liquidity to lenders through our Early Funding desk.
  • Develop and execute strategies to manage and transfer interest rate risk associated with Fannie Mae’s single-family guaranty business to the capital markets and private investors.
  • Work with Product Management to develop technology to improve execution options with Fannie Mae.
  • Ensure policy, procedures and risk limits for mortgage capital market transactions are accurate and reflect best practices in the industry.
  • Ensure that activities involved in conducting and negotiating business are performed in an efficient, timely, and prudent manner, consistent with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Build relationships with investors’ senior level management teams and represent Fannie Mae Capital Markets at industry conferences.
  • Maximize staff performance through the utilization of the performance management process, staff development and coaching, and the appropriate use of rewards and recognition.  This includes training and development, recruitment, and mentoring.
  • Manage, motivate, and develop a diversified staff of professionals.
Qualifications

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

  • 15+ years’ experience in markets
  • Strong appreciation for prepayment models and prepayment analytics
  • Deep familiarity of relative value frameworks to evaluate agency MBS, specified pools, derivatives and CMOs
  • Working knowledge of the process flow for specified pool auctions.
  • Strong leadership experience, both in managing less experienced traders, and in engaging with stakeholders across the firm.
  • Working history of hedging frameworks for risk positions, including duration and volatility hedges.
  • Ability to teach concepts to wider footprint of stakeholders, including those that do not have familiarity with Agency MBS.
