JOB SUMMARY:

The Application Engineer (AE) at all levels is responsible for supporting the salesperson or customer with the technical review of our customer’s application. This defines our most competitive interaction. This role is responsible for promoting the sale of the Division’s products which requires abundant engineering knowledge to make judgments involving applications, installations, and economic consideration, as well as, handling all customer and distributor inquiries requiring technical assistance.

  • Provide technical support and solutions to the sales team and customers from pre-sale strategy through client implementation and installation
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of complex aspects of products and systems
  • Analyze customer requirements and illustrate how company solutions can provide value and support their organization
  • Work in partnership with the supply chain and sales team to confirm costs, strategize sales approaches, and ensure attainment of sales quotas
  • Prepare proposals and technical responses to RFI and RFPs
  • Understand specific client systems and equipment requirements in order to identify additional sales opportunities to provide to the sales team
  • Recommend modifications to standard products to meet individual customer requirements, within practical company and economic limitations
  • Provide written/verbal quotations and perform necessary follow-up in accordance with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and company price lists, electronic quote tools, and contractual discount schedules
  • May perform costing analysis on product line items versus published pricing to arrive at gross margin calculation for review and approval by Applications and Sales Managers
  • May coordinate customer delivery requirements with the Production Department and configure technical solutions for customers to ensure successful customer integration
  • Anticipate and answer client/sales questions on product functionality/usage, application inquiries, and appropriate product recommendations in a timely manner
  • Assists customers with troubleshooting problems, handles customer complaints, and solves problems in a prompt, professional manner; may be involved in investigating and reporting on warranty claims and return goods authorization (RGA) process
  • Collaborate and transfer technical knowledge with sales staff, trainers, and product support.
  • Provide feedback on development, marketing literature, website development, and other system tools to boost productivity and as needed to increase sales of the Division’s products
  • Provide consultation or demonstrations remotely from the office, possibly onsite at trade shows, or by visiting client sites for sales or service-related activities
  • Create and maintain internal documentation and drawings
  • Compile product information into succinct, organized technical documentation
  • Knowledge of Air Pollution Control Technologies, EPA, VOC, basic engineering calculations, and basic knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Competency in burner systems, natural gas piping trains, and NFPA 86 requirements
  • Competency in industrial fan and blower design
  • Create proposal write-up (MS Word), engineering calculation (MS Excel), get quotes from the vendor (RFQ), and provide estimated cost (MS Excel)
  • Create job kickoff meeting review documents and assist the project teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned

ION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field and 5-8 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Prior experience in the Engineering (chemical engineering preferred), mechanical, design, and/or commercial industrial manufacturing industry is helpful.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Microsoft Office Suite; ERP systems, ADP, Epicor and/or D365 is beneficial. Familiarity with EPM tools (e.g., Hyperion, TM1, etc.) preferred.
  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

  • Physics — Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic, and sub- atomic structures and processes.
  • Materials — Knowledge of material science, including their properties and interaction with other products in the system.
  • English Language-Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
