The Social Services Specialist serves as a member of a treatment team whose goal is to maximize independence and self-sufficiency for the patient.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Review and monitor social work components of specific projects within a division of a central or coordinating agency.
  • Visit local agencies responsible for carrying out project and ensures compliance with project guidelines, regulations and policies.
  • Provide orientation training and serves as expert consultant to local project staff, new staff and central agency staff.
  • Provide resource information to, and interprets project guidelines for, agencies providing local project services.
  • Prepare a variety of reports regarding site visits and project reviews.
  • Perform related duties as required.

As a specialist in a social service treatment program, representative duties include:

  • Participate in, and ensure quality of, diagnoses of individuals' needs.
  • Perform and review pre-admission evaluations and discharge plans.
  • Counsel individuals and families related to their social needs and skills.
  • Review and ensure professional quality of services provided by lower-level staff.
  • Assume responsibility for a major social work program.
  • Coordinate institution services with other community agencies and sets up and monitors referral system with other service providers.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of social work, case work, sociology and group therapy including new methods and theories of treatment.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and/or federal laws, regulations, guidelines and standards affecting social work projects.
  • General knowledge of the interrelationships of the various behavioral sciences as they affect care and treatment of patients/clients and/or objectives of social work projects.
  • Ability to formulate and monitor project guidelines or treatment plans.
  • Working knowledge of related social service programs and ability to coordinate work among programs.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate reports.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
