Marketing Director – Agency Operations and Creative Services

SUMMARY

SEMA is searching for an experienced forward thinking Marketing Director to lead agency operations and creative services for SEMA’s internal centralized marketing agency. POSITION FOCUS

The Marketing Director will be responsible in driving all aspects of marketing strategy, operations, and creative services including marketing planning and production, project management, internal client relations, creative services, budget management, and analytics. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and closely working cross functionally with other members of the marketing team, and interacting with numerous stakeholders, outside agencies, and external contractors, the Marketing Director of Agency Operations will lead and oversee the creative services and project management teams to strategize, execute, deliver, and continuously improve and evolve marketing support needs for SEMA’s various business units. This individual will lead development and implementation of co-created strategies and marketing plans through a variety of marketing agency services. Together with the Vice President of Marketing this role will work to build a world class operations and creative services team and collaborate closely with other employees at all levels of the organization.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Lead agency operations for SEMA’s internal marketing agency.
  2. Direct the development, maintenance, continuous improvement of marketing agency structure, procedures, and practices.
  3. Develop and execute annual strategic marketing plans to support the Association’s relevant strategic priorities and departmental goals.
  1. Lead account services and partnership with department leaders in Events, Sales, Membership, Education, Research, Government Affairs, SEMA Data, SEMA Garage and SEMA’s various business units to develop, execute, and review approved marketing strategies to achieve SEMA’s priority strategic objectives while continuously improving how SEMA connects with its members.
  2. Develop and manage marketing programs ensuring appropriate strategies, programs, tactics, and metrics are in place to progress SEMA’s efforts to build world class and industry leading marketing programs.
  1. Oversee the marketing production process to consistently deliver high quality deliverables in a well-defined and agreed upon time frame.
  2. Oversee and guide the creative development and distribution of marketing and promotional materials.
  1. Manage the primary editing and proofreading of all promotional materials with Marketing Copywriter submitting comps for final approval.
  1. Consistently communicate with SEMA Business Unit leaders and stakeholders to nurture and maintain positive client relationships.
  2. Develop and maintain a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manual and quality control process for all marketing processes and activities.
  3. Evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing marketing programs. Benchmark, evaluate, and develop/adjust programs to meet strategic and departmental goals.
  4. Create and manage an annual operating budget for marketing­ related projects and provide regular performance reports, including cost/benefit analysis, to stake holders and management.
  5. Manage various Marketing Team and Client budgets. Collaborate with VP of Marketing and various stakeholders to ensure marketing budgets are consistently updated and on target.
  1. Engage and manage effective use of outside agencies and contractors.
  1. Collaborate with Digital Marketing Director in the use of internal and external resources to execute digital advertising (DSP, Google, Social Advertising, etc.), SEO, web design/services, social media support, and video production.
  2. Collaborate with IT and Digital Marketing Director to execute an effective market segmentation strategy to ensure that marketing deliverables are being received by the correct target audience(s). Build predictive models and participate in data mining efforts to prioritize targets.
  3. Collaborate with Public Relations and Communications AVP in the use of internal and external to execute public relations and communications needs for various SEMA business unit leaders.
  1. Work with SEMA News Publisher, Editorial Director, and PAPI team to implement SEMA business unit marketing initiatives.
  1. Help Identify new marketing partners and opportunities. Foster relationships and partnerships with key businesses, agencies, content creators, designers, and outside contractors to expand the teams’ capabilities.
  2. Attend and participate in SEMA sponsored and other external activities, events and functions as required.
  3. When directed by management, perform other assignments and duties as required.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher. MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years job experience related to marketing, marketing operations, creative services, client management, marketing strategy, and analytics.
  • 5+ years managerial experience
  • Expertise in building, maintaining, and growing client relationships.
  • Expertise in utilization of a project management platform (Wrike, Asana, Monday, Basecamp, etc...)
  • Expertise in marketing strategy development, execution, and review.
  • Expertise in budget management, implementation, tracking, and reconciliation.
  • Expertise with accounting and budgeting software (Quickbooks, Dynamic Budgets, Netsuite, etc..)
  • Strong written, presentation, consulting, and communication skills.
  • Strong creative vision, able to provide insightful creative feedback.
  • Proven experience leading creative service group.
  • Proven experience leading marketing production and operations.
  • Proven experience leading multi-faceted teams.
  • Proven experience in automotive aftermarket industry or nonprofit industry a plus.
  • Agency experience and/or agency management a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with various marketing tools, programs, and platforms.
  • Experience with Google Analytics and other analytical tools.
  • Data driven and highly analytical, capable of making metrics-based decisions.
  • Strategic-minded, always aware of the big picture.
  • High level of organization with the ability to manage multiple multi-faceted projects with various stakeholders with tight deadlines.
