Job Summary

Provide hands-on electrical harness fabrication and assembly support for new vehicle development within Engineering. The prototype developer would work within the Engineering Prototype team to help fabricate vehicle-level prototype electrical harnesses and provide electrical troubleshooting across a large portfolio of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing engineering prints and schematics to assemble electrical wire harnesses. Tasks would include developing harness assembly boards, cutting wire lengths, crimping terminals, completing sonic welds, etc., to fabricate the complete harness assembly. Harnesses would range from small jumper wire and power cables (2-3 wires) to complete vehicle-level main harnesses (100+ wires).
  • Purchasing components (connectors, terminals, heat shrink, etc.) needed to complete harness assemblies and maintaining inventory of commonly used components. Tracking component purchases and submitting monthly expense reports to allocate purchases to appropriate project charge codes.
  • Providing electrical troubleshooting of engineering test and concept cars to identify and resolve root cause issues.
  • Collaborating with electrical engineers on potential changes to harness designs to improve manufacturability and ease of assembly.
  • Leading 5S responsibilities of the wire shop within the prototype lab and maintaining high levels of cleanliness and organization. Ensuring all inventoried items are properly labeled and stored to provide the most efficient methods for harness fabrication.
  • Providing input on new capital equipment and processes needed to improve harness fabrication efficiency and quality.
  • Providing input on timing for harness assemblies to project teams for project planning.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree or technical certification in related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience required.
  • Experience with standard electrical wiring hand tools (wire strippers, multi-meters, crimpers, etc.).
  • Experience with standard automotive hand/power/air tools (wrenches, power/air drills, screwdrivers, hammers/mallets, etc.).
  • Experience with standard wire shop power equipment preferred (sonic welders, terminal crimpers, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of engineering electrical harness drawings and schematics.
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint).
