Job DescriptionJob Description

Boise Cascade is hiring a payroll accountant with relevant experience in payroll accounting and/or corporate accounting who will report to the Director of Financial Reporting. The successful candidate will join the Company’s Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting Department and play a key role in the Company’s payroll and corporate accounting efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities in this role may include the following types of activities:

  • Prepare journal entries related to payroll processing, as well as other miscellaneous monthly and quarterly HR accruals and allocations.
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll reports, including tax filings, quarterly and year-end processing, and payroll general ledger accounts, and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Research and analyze data related to payroll taxes.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare reports for management and outside vendors.
  • Answer questions and provide customer service to internal and external customers regarding payroll matters.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all employee information and payroll records.
  • Participate in various human resource projects where payroll data collection, analysis and reporting will be necessary.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to find opportunities for process improvement and/or automation.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned within the corporate finance department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with basic understanding of accounting principles and theories.
  • 1-2+ years of payroll accounting and/or corporate accounting work experience.
  • Must be highly detail-oriented and organized to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external customers to maximize performance, problem solve, and achieve results.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of payroll accounting principles and practices, including payroll taxes.
  • Multi-state payroll and tax filing experience.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft (financial ERP) and UKG (payroll) applications.
