The Southern States LLC Senior Tool & Die Maker Analyzes specifications, lay out metal stock, sets up and operates manual and CNC machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.

HOW YOU WILL ADD VALUE:
- Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
- Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
- Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
- Sets up and operates multiple manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Knowledge of CNC G-Code programming language and ability to write and edit advanced CNC programs for multiple machines via machine controllers and/or offline CAD/CAM software.
- Lifts machined parts manually or with hoist and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable using devices such as vises, V-blocks, fixtures and angle plates.
- Smooths flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, and fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
- Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
- Heat treats tools or parts.
- Examines new or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
- Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
- Assists in leading, scheduling, and delegating tool or prototype jobs within the Tool Room.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Two-year machine tool / machinist certificate from college or technical school and over five years of related Tool & Die experience; or six to eight years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to convert decimal and fractional dimensions. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to use advanced machinist handbook formulas. Ability to use a wide array of mathematical and geometric devices, such as, calculators, protractors, scales, calipers, micrometers, etc.
