In this role the Sustainability Specialist - Deforestation will be responsible to support advancing no-deforestation commitments in high priority supply chains and work with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have experience with operationalizing sustainability goals, project management and reporting, and have an educational background in environmental science or sustainability. The objective of this role is to improve processes to demonstrate compliance, develop cross-functional reporting tools, drive buying and supplier engagement, and support coordinating activities.  

Position Type: Full-Time
Work Location: Aurora, IL
This role is eligible to participate in ALDI’s Hybrid Work Program, which allows remote work up to 3 days per week (i.e., work remotely up to 3 days per week; work in-office at least 2 days per week).

Duties and Responsibilities:
Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Collaborates with leadership to make decisions on products based on Corporate Responsibility standards, handle escalated social and environmental issues, and promote efficient implementation of department initiatives.
• Informs management of impending legislative, sustainability, and social matters.
• Recommends process improvements for area of responsibility.
• Supports direct leader in the training of new employees.
• Manages  reporting requirements for all teams by working with the appropriate managers and assistants to ensure accurate submission to stakeholders.
• Maintains Corporate Responsibility programs and procedures in conjunction with management.
• Conducts extensive research within area of responsibility and creates reports/summaries on the appropriate course of action to take.
• Analyzes data and makes recommendations to leadership on new programs that could be implemented to address emerging trends.
• Develops and maintains knowledge and understanding of Corporate Responsibility industry trends.
• Maintains full knowledge of, and supports further development of, the company’s Corporate Responsibility policies, goals, and key performance indicators (national and international).
• Collaborates with team members and communicates relevant information to leadership.
• Upholds the security and confidentiality of documents and data within area of responsibility.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Work may be performed in an office, remote office or a combination of both where a computer and office equipment may be used as needed to perform duties.
• Regularly required to sit, reach, grasp, stand and move from one area to another.
• Constantly and repeatedly use keyboard/mouse.
• Occasionally required to push, pull, bend, lift and move up to 25 lbs.

Travel:

• Domestic travel required.
• Up to 10%.
