Job Summary:
The Midwest Accounting Analyst is responsible for performing weekly and monthly accounting duties and preparing reports to support business operations at all Midwest Live Operation locations. This role supports the month-end closing and budgeting processes and is accountable for recording, tracking, and closing Capital Expenditure Projects. This position requires cross-functional collaboration with leadership to ensure alignment of projects with the objectives of the three Midwest Live Operations and Finance teams. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential to navigate the procedures and policy protocols of each location effectively.
Essential Functions, Duties, & Responsibilities:
· Maintains accurate and organized financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and standards.
· Manages the general ledger by recording transactions, preparing journal entries, and conducting account reconciliations.
· Provides assistance with the preparation of various cost reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
· Responsible for recording, tracking, and closing Capital Expenditure Requests for all Midwest Live Ops locations.
· Monitors and analyzes Feed Mills and Live Ops expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support budgeting processes.
· Assists with the budgeting process for all Midwest Live locations.
· Contributes to the month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing necessary schedules and reconciliations.
· Assists with reporting of accurate and timely Weekly Live Variance Reporting
· Provides documentation for both internal and external audits. Periodically and annually.
· Collaborates with the Finance team on special projects, financial analysis, and other tasks as required.
· Cross-trains, supports, and provides coverage to all Live Accounting positions at each location.
· Enters vendor(s) information into accounting software system.
· Processes invoices with corresponding purchase orders (POs), verifying accuracy, addressing discrepancies, and ensuring timely payments to vendors.
· Tracks outstanding balances and initiates follow-ups for overdue payments.
· Posts and allocates incoming payments accurately.
· Reviews formulas and pricing within the accounting system; updates when necessary.
· Cultivates positive and professional relationships with suppliers, employees, and leadership.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· Superior written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Thorough understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, fixed assets, reporting standards, and revenue recognition.
· Detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy and precision.
· Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
· Self-driven with ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision in a deadlines-oriented environment.
· Capability of operating independently and collaboratively with other team members.
· Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
· Demonstrates the ability to tackle issues, inquiries, and concerns promptly and proactively.
· Continuous improvement mindset and forward thinking with ideas for automating/standardizing processes.
· Proficient in Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.) and accounting software (M-Tech, SAP, or similar).
Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent related field.
o In lieu of college degree will consider equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· 3+ years of experience serving in roles handling accounting or financial analysis is required.
· Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP or similar is desired.
Working Conditions:
· Work is performed in an office environment with telephones, personal computers, and printers.
· The noise level of the environment is usually moderate.
· Sedentary position with seldom to occasional lifting of less than 15 pounds.
· May require standing less than or equal to 1/3 of the day.
· Ability to collaborate virtually with stakeholders across multiple time zones.
· Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
