Christiana Care is recruiting for a Phlebotomy Specialist to work Full time.
The work hours are Monday – Friday 7:30AM to 4PM. You are required to work four (4) hours every third (3) Saturday, and no Holidays. There is some rotation required to other locations, but the frequency is based on staffing needs.
Primary Function:
As the Phlebotomy Specialist, you are responsible for patient registration and specimen collection for Christiana Care Laboratory.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Interviews and registers outpatients accurately in Soarian, obtaining the correct insurance information and patient signature on any required forms by utilizing Order Checker as appropriate. Selects the correct encounter and orders laboratory tests accurately in the LIS, following established protocols including scanner receiving and tracking. Performs scanner received status report.
Performs successful venipuncture using established procedures on adult and pediatric patients.
Follows established procedures for proper identification of patients, greeting all patients in a courteous manner, introducing self and calling patient by name.
Properly labels and processes patient specimens prior to arrival in clinical laboratory.
Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients, including the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and to provide the care needed.
Interprets physician’s oral and written test orders in an accurate manner.
Follows-up with physician’s office to clarify any confusion or question, including resolution of any medical necessity and/or diagnosis issues.
Handles all telephone requests in a courteous manner documenting the call. Answers calls stating name and department.
Prepares specimens for transport to clinical laboratory as necessary.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Experience required with patient registration and/or test order entry into a computerized system.
Phlebotomy experience required.
High school graduate
