Position Title: Education Specialist

Reports To: Chief Learning Officer

Summary: Provides support to the Education Department in the overall coordination of the department’s operations. Duties include implementation and logistical support for the Society’s online education activities housed within the organizations’ learning management system, live activities, and project-based work as directed by team members. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Provides support to the Chief Learning Officer with project-based tasks as assigned.

  • Supports development of online and live initiatives for the SSO’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan.
  • Coordinates and implements the following segments/steps of assigned online educational activities and the SSO SurgOnc Today Podcast series:
    • Chair and faculty management
    • Scheduling of planning calls, recordings, and live events
    • Logistical coordination
    • Creation and submission of Marketing Brief to Marketing Department
    • Collection of necessary paperwork for CME activities, i.e., disclosures, agendas, resolution of conflicts of interest
    • Creation of activity in learning management system and Zoom platform
    • Facilitation of live online event
  • Supports collection and preparation of CME related information for accredited activities including disclosures, evaluation and outcomes data and analysis, ACCME PARs submission, etc.
  • Submit grant requests for the SSO Fellows Institute, Advanced Cancer Therapies Conference, Annual Meeting and other live events.
  • Provides committee/work group support to SSO Chief Learning Officer and other education team members as assigned.
  • Provides onsite staff support at the SSO Annual Meeting.
  • Maintains appropriate interpersonal relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and Society leaders and members.
  • Utilizes exemplary customer service skills when answering the education department calls and other phone inquiries and emails particularly about educational products and live events.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills. Ability to schedule simultaneous events such as podcast recordings, webinars, and planning calls.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Highly organized with strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Anticipate problems and volunteer concerns and raise them with the Chief Learning Officer.
  • Ability to work well under pressure/in high-stress situations and maintain professionalism in a dynamic high-profile environment. Flexibly responds to changing needs and priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Demonstrates logical, sequential thinking with a proactive, self-directed approach to projects and solution finding. Must be able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines, functioning well autonomously and as a team member.
