Job Title: Director of Major Gifts and Event Management 

Reports To: Vice President of Development 


SUMMARY 

Under the guidance of the Vice President of Development, and in collaboration with the Senior Director of Development, the Director of Major Gifts and Event Management will play a crucial role in the Development Department, focusing on cultivating and stewarding relationships with individuals to secure major gifts for the Kravis Center in conjunction with the Strategic Plan and Fundraising Plan; will focus on expanding the organization’s major gifts program through frontline prospect and donor management; and will take a leadership role in planning and executing high-profile fundraising events, including the annual Gala. The Director of Major Gifts and Event Management is a key member of the Development Department’s Leadership Team. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Major Gift Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship 
  • In collaboration with the Development Department Leadership Team, maintain a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors through strategic identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewarding. 
  • Develop and implement personalized engagement strategies for major gift prospects and donors. 
  • Maintain a welcoming presence in the Founders’ Room and in other activated donor specific areas. 
  • Participate in prospect strategy and review meetings with the Development Team. 
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of donor interactions, news, and gift information in Kravis Center’s database, Tessitura. 
  • Support donor concierge phone line ticket inquiries and requests. 


  • Event Management 
  • In collaboration with the Development Department Leadership Team, plan and organize donor recognition activities and annual fundraising events, such as the Gala, Founders’ 
  • Dinner, Dress Circle Member recognition, Corporate Partner Speaker Series luncheons, and other donor activated events as they arise onsite and off campus. 
  • For each event, create and maintain an appropriate timeline and run-of-show in conjunction with Development’s Master Calendar. Maintain accurate and complete event invitee/attendee information in Tessitura (see Elevated Events module). 
  • Prepare appropriate event budgets reflecting the best possible return on investment (ROI), ensuring expense and revenue goals are met. 
  • Collaborate with planning committees, vendors, and internal teams to ensure successful event execution. 
  • Plan and liaise pre-function receptions with sponsor/host when necessary. 
  • Oversee event logistics including but not limited to décor company, catering company, tech/production departments, front of house leadership, programming/marketing departments, in-house and police security, housekeeping, valet parking vendor, sponsorship recognition, etc., as needed based on event requirements. 
  • Provide appropriate personalized care to VIPs, addressing their needs and ensuring their satisfaction. 
  • Maintain accurate table and seating lists and charts. 
  • Work with internal and external PR teams to ensure appropriate donor recognition and messaging surrounding pre- and post-event publicity. 
  • Plan post-event follow up, such as: 
  • "Thank you” email to attendees to deploy following morning. 
  • Recognition ads in papers and other publications. 
  • Event photos/portraits sent to attendees 


REQUIRED ESSENTIAL SKILLS 

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in major gift fundraising, with a proven track record of securing significant gifts. 
  • Extensive experience in planning and executing large scale fundraising events, particularly galas. 
  • Superior attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. 
  • Capability to work at a fast pace while multitasking and maintaining accuracy. 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including oral and written. 
  • An outgoing and pleasant personality; enjoy interfacing with people; excellent team player; comfortable in social settings. 
  • Skilled at diplomacy, exhibiting sound judgment; solve problems quickly and creatively. 
  • Self-starter who takes initiative, especially as it pertains to donor solicitation. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Tessitura and iWave would be an asset. 
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
