HDT Bio is pioneering technologies that direct the host immune system to treat or prevent cancer and infectious diseases. The research associate will be primarily responsible for working on the development and characterization of our RNA technology. You will have the opportunity to work closely with molecular biologists, virologists, immunologists, and material scientists to optimize formulation and delivery of RNA with specific applications in areas of vaccine and therapeutic development for infectious disease and oncology applications.


A background in molecular biology is required. Major techniques include cloning, RNA transcription/capping, analysis of DNA, RNA, and protein expression in vitro by multiple methods, and next generation sequencing. HPLC experience is preferred. Candidates with varying levels of experience will be considered and are encouraged to apply.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Nucleic acid manipulation methods including:
  • Plasmid/construct design
  • PCR and molecular cloning; transformation of e. coli
  • DNA purification and preparation for RNA transcriptions
  • RNA transcription and capping; downstream purification via HPLC
  • RNA analysis methods including:
  • SHAPE-directed RNA structure determination
  • 5’/3-RACE
  • Sequencing
  • Gel and capillary electrophoresis
  • Dot blots
  • Northern blots
  • Nucleic acid transfection and assays for gene transcription and translation including:
  • Western blots and immunofluorescence
  • qRT-PCR, in situ hybridization, nanostring
  • Maintenance of multiple cell-lines, including primary cells
  • Monitor laboratory supply inventories and work with purchasing agents to ensure available stock for group or area.
  • Presentation of research findings at group meetings.
  • Communication with research management on a regular basis.
  • Maintain the highest standards of laboratory practice in line with HDT policy, including maintenance of laboratory notebook.
  • Contribute freely to the team research environment in a manner conducive to the success of the research project as a whole


Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy, proficiency in MS Office programs
  • Demonstrated expertise in cloning and analysis of DNA
  • Preferred experience includes:
  • RNA handling and analysis
  • HPLC purification of nucleic acids
  • High-throughput screening of nucleic acid libraries for function in vitro
  • Molecular virology


Education/Experience:

  • BS/MS in a biological science with 4+/2+ years’ experience, respectively
  • 2-4 years full-time laboratory experience with basic molecular cloning, PCR, and cell culture
  • Background in molecular biology
