The department of People and Talent serves as a strategic campus partner by providing solutions that attract, engage, develop, and retain employees. This position provides human resource consultation to HR professionals, managers, and employees within the Colleges, Schools, and Units (CSUs) of UT Austin.
Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.

Purpose

As part of the Strategic Workforce Solutions (SWS) team within the department of People and Talent, this position provides consultation and process guidance to HR Professionals and other staff members at the university in the areas of employee relations, job classification and compensation, and recruitment. Supports the university‘s strategic plan Change Starts Here by actively participating in program and process development designed to achieve People goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist departmental HR, managers, employees in understanding and following performance management processes. Processes include setting expectations, feedback, performance evaluations, recognition and rewards, development, corrective action, and reduction in force.
  • Analyze complex workplace conflicts and performance management situations, incorporating review of state and federal employment laws, rules and regulations, and University and UT System rules, regulations, and procedures. Provide appropriate options and solutions.
  • Review and revise necessary documentation related to performance
    management, classification, and recruitment. May compile and prepare
    compensation study findings.
  • Participate fully in program and process development designed to further
    initiatives from the university‘s strategic plan, Change Starts Here.
  • Develop and present classroom, online, and customized training sessions on HR topics.
  • Serve as final approver of recruitment and compensation actions in Workday
    ensuring that best practices are occurring. Manage dual state employment and unemployment claims.
  • Provide high level support on staffing functions: position development,
    recruitment, and classification. Consult with management and departmental HR on workforce needs and staffing strategies.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Demonstration of competencies typically acquired through a bachelor‘s degree and three (3) years of progressively complex generalist HR experience. Key competencies include customer focus, effective communication, problem solving and business acumen. Demonstrated experience in exercising independent judgment in analyzing complex work situations. Ability to manage a high volume of clients in a busy work environment. Experience facilitating effective
training presentations. Demonstrated ability to compose and edit correspondence, including performance management documents and classification, recruitment, and job analysis documents. Knowledge of state and federal employment laws, rules, and regulations.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual (Spanish/English). Experience using Workday.

Salary Range

$75,000

Working Conditions
  • Work-Life balance of typical 40-hour work weeks.
  • Work performed from the Austin TX office location a minimum of four days per week with option to work remotely one day per week (subject to change based on business need).
