**Location (On-site): Kings Point, NY (Option for On-Campus Living and relocation assistance provided)**
POSITION SUMMARY:
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), one of the nation’s five federal service academies, is seeking a strategic and accomplished leader for the position of Director, Office of Facilities and Infrastructure Management. This critical role is responsible for overseeing the safe and effective acquisition, maintenance, and lifecycle management of the Academy’s infrastructure, ensuring that facilities support the mission of educating future maritime leaders.
Working under the Maritime Administration (MARAD) and within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the Director will manage a $90M budget for capital improvements and facilities maintenance. The successful candidate will also lead change management initiatives to align resources and processes with strategic goals, ensuring the Academy’s infrastructure meets both current and future demands. This position includes the option for on-campus living, providing a unique opportunity to be immersed in the Academy’s day-to-day operations.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Provide visionary leadership to the Facilities and Infrastructure Management unit, guiding the strategic planning and execution of a $90M capital improvement program that ensures the preservation and enhancement of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) historic and mission-critical infrastructure.
- Spearhead transformative change management initiatives that integrate complex capital and repair projects, establish project management as a key operational discipline, and optimize resource alignment to support the long-term objectives of the Academy.
- Serve as a key advisor and senior leader, engaging regularly with top executives across USMMA, the Maritime Administration (MARAD), and the U.S. Department of Transportation to communicate the Academy’s infrastructure priorities and ensure alignment with national goals.
- Cultivate influential relationships with Members of Congress, federal and state agencies, and other distinguished stakeholders, including USMMA alumni, to advocate for and secure the necessary support and resources for the Academy’s infrastructure needs.
WHY THIS ROLE?
- Be entrusted with the stewardship of one of the nation’s most prestigious federal service academies, playing a vital role in securing the infrastructure that supports the Academy’s mission to develop leaders for the U.S. Merchant Marine, military, and maritime industries.
- Lead efforts that directly contribute to national security and the global competitiveness of the U.S. maritime industry, positioning the Academy as a cornerstone of maritime leadership and innovation.
- Experience the rare opportunity to live on campus, fostering a direct connection to the Academy’s daily life and mission, while leading efforts that will leave a lasting impact on future generations of maritime and military leaders.
