Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for establishing, stabilizing, and maintaining World-Class manufacturing processes and supply chain. The successful applicant will be required to communicate effectively through all organizational levels at Vacuum Process Engineering (VPE) including vendor and client organizations. Strengths will include analytical skills, the ability to drive to root cause, develop corrective action plans, then effectively monitor process controls. The ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment is a must. VPE is AS9100 registered and manufactures ITAR products, US Citizenship is required. Familiarity with Thermal Bonding, Brazing, Heat Treating, Plating, and Precision Machining processes are beneficial.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide manufacturing engineering support to meet design requirements, on in house manufacturing process, additional outside services, and final assemblies.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members while performing job functions.
  • Scale products and processes to meet future production rates and meet requirements.
  • Build, document, and maintain process standard work, with consideration for ergonomics.
  • Provide technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources.

Process Control and Improvement responsibilities:

  • Develop ways to: optimize producibility, reduce cycle times, yield losses & overall cost.
  • Establish key process measures and validate suitability for process control using measurement system analysis (MSA), including Gage R&R.
  • Track manufacturing discrepancy performance and lead development of process improvements, controls, and documentation.
  • Conduct Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and facilitate implementation of countermeasure improvements, using 8D, A3, PDCA, or DMAIC.
  • Lead process experimentation and solution development when outcomes fail to meet requirements.
  • Advise on rework plans and authorize alterations to shop orders with production control.

Product Data Ownership:

  • Enable production scheduling: establish and maintain ERP routings and cycle times.
  • Enable supply chain management: establish and revise ERP Bills of Materials (BOMs)

Product Support:

  • Analyze process activity and times to support product costing.
  • Support R&D / APQP efforts as co-development partner and process technical expert.
  • Own transition of products from R&D proof of concept to stable manufacturing.
  • Participate in review of product design to contribute manufacturing process requirements, limitations, and considerations.
  • Adhere to quality system processes by understanding requirements, controls, and specifications.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering / manufacturing operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent training/experience
  • 5+ years of experience working on major projects including new product launches.
  • 5+ years of experience providing technical direction and leadership of manufacturing processes.
  • Proven ability/experience with designing in Solidworks.
  • Manage projects and assignments with autonomy, and accountability for results.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and work with customers.
  • Excellent communications skills, suitable for customer and supplier interactions.
  • Ability to lead work teams, lead, plan, and execute multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate application of process engineering disciplines: RCCA, FMEA, MSA.
  • Demonstrate implement Lean principles: Standard Work, 5S, SMED, Kaizen
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 software tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Project)


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in Aviation, Aerospace, or Semiconductor Industries
  • Previous exposure/experience with Diffusion Bonding and Vacuum Brazing highly preferred


Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and understand component technical manuals.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
