Chief Medical Officer (CMO)


POSITION: Chief Medical Officer (CMO); Fractional/Part Time

LOCATION: La Jolla, CA; On-Site

REPORTS TO: CEO


Redeployment was created to match great people with great Life Science companies We have been hired by a San Diego based Immuno-Oncology company to find a fractional Chief Medical Officer to join their team as they complete their IND filing process and proceed into Phase I clinical trials.


This company is committed to developing a new generation of intravenously deliverable oncolytic viruses with the goal of ultimately curing cancer, especially advanced cancer. This next hire is integral to the success of the company as they progress to this pivotal time in the company’s growth.


The CMO will be responsible for the oncology trials, guiding the entire process from start to finish. They handle planning, ensure rules are followed and aligned with site IRBs/ethics committees, and/or review committees as needed, and understand research results. They're a key link between different teams, sharing findings inside and outside the company. This role involves leading with data, making important choices, and shaping program direction. The CMO’s deep understanding of research methods and mentoring skills will greatly impact the company's clinical work.


***Initially, this will be on a fractional basis, as needed by the company. The exact amount of time required will depend greatly on a lot of factors that we will discuss during the interview process.***


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Drives Oncology trials from start to finish: planning, development, monitoring, reporting.

• Analyzes research, assessing drug safety and market potential.

• Ensures strict adherence to standards and regulations and will be essential in the creation of SOPs

• Executes research strategies, shaping program development with a focus on pre-clinical into the clinical trial process.

• Essential in forecasting future developments, manpower increases, and realistic budgets aligned with the progressing clinical trials being conducted

• Takes charge of studies, defining key parameters, ensuring timelines are kept, and supporting compliance (GCP, IRB, etc)

• Serves as the vital link connecting diverse teams and effectively communicating findings to the executive teams and investors

• Leads vigilant medical monitoring, ensuring precise management of trial outcomes.

• Spearheads the creation of protocols, while guiding and mentoring team members, showcasing expertise.

• Review master service agreements, statements of work, and quality agreements relating to clinical operations

• Presents comprehensive research status and leads discussions on data.

• Cultivates relationships with industry leaders and regulatory authorities.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


REQUIRED:

• 12+ years of experience in clinical research or similar fields like pharmaceuticals or biotech POST education. At least 3 years of experience in an executive role.

• MD in relevant focus areas

• Expertise in clinical oncology research and its application to the development of cancer drugs.

• A thorough understanding of drug development from IND to NDA/BLA

• Expertise/Knowledge of relevant regulatory guidelines and ICH/GCP; well-versed in medical aspects of GCP, ICH, FDA, EMEA, NICE and other relevant guidelines and regulations.

• Proven experience taking drug from preclinical through IND process and into clinical trials

PREFERRED:

• Experience working with an oncolytic virus and/or immuno-oncology

• Experience taking a drug through later phases of clinical trials and through to commercialization


The compensation for this position will depend greatly on the structure that both parties agree to and the scope of work that will be discussed during the interview process because this is a fractional/contract role.
