Overall Position Summary and Objectives:
The Laboratory Support Technician will provide technical laboratory support for the NINDS Development Therapeutics and Pharmacology Unit, focusing on biological research and experimentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and administering biological research programs.
- Study basic principles of plant and animal life, including origin, relationship, development, anatomy, and function.
- Identify, classify, and study the structure, behavior, ecology, physiology, nutrition, culture, and distribution of plant and animal species.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with various groups and individuals to encourage cooperative management strategies and interpret findings.
- Perform basic laboratory experiments and procedures, including the collection and analysis of biological data on relationships among and between organisms and their environment.
- Monitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnel.
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings.
- Coordinate the work of biological technicians, technologists, and other scientists.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain various lab samples, supplies, and equipment.

- Ability to Acquire Knowledge: Ability to assist with publications and research in new fields.
- Proficiency in Data Acquisition: Operation of computer and general data acquisition programs.

- Molecular Techniques: Background in molecular techniques and demonstrated ability to perform experiments.

Technical Expertise:
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment (e.g., spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers).
- Collect, record, and analyze data using computer programs.
- Learn and apply new laboratory techniques and procedures.
