Position Overview:

The Research Biologist will play a crucial role in providing laboratory assistance for biological studies within the NINDS Development Therapeutics and Pharmacology Unit. This position emphasizes biological research and experimentation.

Location: Bethesda, MD

Work Schedule: 30-40 hours per week

Education Requirements: A Master's Degree in Biology or a related discipline is essential.

Certifications: Good Laboratory Practice certification is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and implementation of biological research initiatives.
  • Examine fundamental concepts of plant and animal life, including their origins, relationships, and functions.
  • Classify and analyze the structure, behavior, ecology, and distribution of various species.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with diverse teams to enhance management strategies and interpret research findings.
  • Conduct basic laboratory experiments, including the collection and analysis of biological data regarding organismal interactions and their environments.
  • Monitor experimental processes, documenting production and test data for further evaluation.
  • Analyze experimental results and compile reports summarizing findings.
  • Coordinate activities among biological technicians, technologists, and fellow scientists.
  • Organize and maintain laboratory samples, supplies, and equipment efficiently.

Essential Skills:

  1. Time Management: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Knowledge Acquisition: Ability to contribute to publications and research in emerging fields.
  3. Data Acquisition Proficiency: Experience with computer and data acquisition software.
  4. Literature Review: Assist in evaluating research results, including those from published studies.
  5. Molecular Techniques: Familiarity with molecular techniques and proven ability to conduct experiments.

  • NIH POTS
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Technical Skills:

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers and calorimeters.
  • Collect and analyze data using specialized software.
  • Adapt to and learn new laboratory techniques and methodologies.

Work Statement:

  • Assist in exploring fundamental principles of biological life.
  • Analyze biological data regarding organismal relationships and environmental interactions.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and samples.
  • Document and interpret research or operational data.
