How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

As the Senior Manager, Global Sourcing and Continuous Improvement, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to the organization’s success by ensuring a reliable and cost-effective supply chain that supports business growth. In particular, you will be responsible for a category of commodity/products inclusive of supplier selection, management and strategy and leading Continuous Improvement. The successful candidate will be proactive and results driven, with a passion for strategic sourcing and supplier management.


What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:


  1. Supplier Sourcing Management


  • Prepare the yearly sourcing strategy for the global business in each commodity category (PCBA’s, Metals, Plastics, Batteries, Cable, etc.) with a goal to identify cost savings opportunities, risk areas and spend trends, and create a procurement roadmap.
  • Own a multi-year cost savings pipeline, track progress to goals, and develop strategies to meet targets while mitigating negative impacts to PPV.
  • Own and maintain the global supplier scorecards, working across departments to gather supplier performance data in areas such as part quality, on-time delivery and service levels.
  • Partner with key suppliers to expand stocking programs and lead joint cost optimization initiatives.
  • Execute supply agreements in collaboration with the legal department, to ensure coverage for AtoN exposure against unforeseen excess/obsolete materials at suppliers.
  • Distribute monthly market trends report for key commodity categories to the company’s leadership and be prepared to quickly implement strategies to take advantage of or protect against sudden market fluctuations.
  • Lead the development and execution of special/strategic supply chain projects and initiatives.
  • Manage inventory initiatives and drive buyers to analyze usage, supplier lead times and material availability by leveraging SAP and the PFEP (Plan for Every Part) to meet zero stockouts goals.
  • Support inventory turns target by monitoring buyer performance in ordering according to Lean principles of matching supply and demand as closely as possible.
  • Support and proactively manage material obsolescence processes alongside the Finance department.


  1. Relationship Management


  • Manage as well as develop a global team of procurement professionals and work with each to meet specific business needs for each AtoN location.
  • Drive commercial relationships with all suppliers, with a principal objective of achieving optimal cost and performance through mutually beneficial business partnerships. As well, reinforce suppliers’ understanding of SPX policies, design standards, budget and cost targets, service and quality expectations.
  • Work with Engineering and Product Development on component / supplier selection for new programs and alternative sources.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels in the organization.
  • Communicate both verbally and written correspondence with a high level of professionalism while ensuring potential supply chain and supplier issues are addressed with a sense of urgency and propose solutions.


  1. Continuous Improvement

  • Target breakthrough improvement opportunities by applying data-driven, process problem-solving, and Pareto analysis techniques
  • Deploy Lean Manufacturing Methodologies including Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Kaizen, 5S, and Visual Management
  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control project processes
  • Report on project progress to appropriate leadership levels on a regular basis
  • Identify barriers to project success and solicit assistance as needed
  • Document lessons learned and share best practices with other Continuous Improvement Leaders

Required Experience

  • 7 plus years’ relevant work experience in global manufacturing companies with increasing responsibilities in a multi-site, multi-product, company
  • Experience driving productivity and value add through negotiations and supplier management
  • Experience with formal processes for supplier selection, qualification, contracting and management
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and end-to-end supply chain management process (concept, planning, development, launch)
  • Demonstrated experience and success working in a fast paced, matrixed environment satisfying multiple customers

  • Intermediate level Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
  • Knowledge of Master Production Scheduling (MPS), Capacity Planning (CP), Bills of Materials (BOM), and Materials Requirements Planning (MRP)
  • Ability to manage projects and meet targets
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Lean Six Sigma knowledge (certification preferred)


Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP Certification preferred

Travel & Working Environment

  • Overnight travel up to 25%
  • Office environment with occasional work in a plant/manufacturing environment
