Overview: Our client, a local government entity located in Parker, CO, is seeking a temporary Accounts Payable Specialist to cover a planned leave for an internal staff member. Coverage will have overlap for cross training on the front end and overlap on the backend when the employee returns. This position will report directly to the Controller. The accounting team is made up of 15 employees total. This role will be responsible for full cycle AP and have a good understanding of accounting systems. This is 100% in-office.


Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1-hour unpaid meal break)
  • Assignment Length: approximately 9 weeks
  • Start Date: ASAP, ideally sometime between 9/16 - 9/23


Job Duties:

  • Serve as point of contact for employees, managers, and vendors regarding accounts payable
  • Receive and distribute invoices to departments for approval and coding (volume of 100-120 invoices/week)
  • Review invoices for approval and documentation and accurately process vendor payments in a timely manner
  • Respond to and resolve a variety of internal and external inquiries concerning account payment status and discrepancies regarding accounts payable
  • Maintain accounts payable and cash disbursement files
  • Manage related IRS Compliance; ensure all applicable vendors have current W-9 on file and maintains vendor records in the accounting system; prepare and distribute 1099s, resolve IRS B-Notices
  • Deposit checks (volume 80-100 invoices)


Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or 4 years' of experience in an accounting position
  • Experience working in a professional office setting
  • Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies
  • Knowledge of accounting, finance, and internal controls best practices and procedures
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using Caselle, a government accounting software, is a strong plus, but not required
  • Skilled in the use of computers and various software programs
  • Skilled in identifying potential needs and problems and suggesting workable solutions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with directors, managers, employees, vendors, customers, and government agencies
  • Ability to work independently with minimal, specific directions
