We're seeking an experienced and versatile Senior Electrical Engineer to lead our hardware and firmware development for the next versions of our prosthetics hand. You will also support operations for our robotics hand. You will have a strong foundation to begin with and will be trained by / working alongside the first designers of our flagship product, The Genesis Hand.

Role Description

This is a full-time senior electrical engineer role with a focus on our line of bionic prosthetic hands at Alt-Bionics, Inc. As a senior electrical engineer, you will be responsible for designing new, or redesigning current PCBs, developing and improving firmware, and applying advanced electrical engineering principles, focusing on motor control for both brushed and brushless motors. This is a hybrid role, with the ability to work remotely for a portion of the week.


Qualifications

  • Experience developing at minimum, Class 1 medical devices. (ISO)
  • Extensive experience in PCB design, firmware development, and motor implementation (both brushed and brushless).
  • Electrical Design, Electrical Engineering, and Power Systems skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is preferred
  • Proficiency in iterative design processes and workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Hardware and Software Development: Spearhead the development of hardware and software systems for our class 1 medical device (prosthetic hand), focusing on PCB design, firmware development, and motor control (both brushed and brushless).
  • System Design: Develop high-level system designs that align with the project vision and objectives.
  • Schematics and Wiring: Design and implement schematics and wiring diagrams that ensure optimal layout and system protection.
  • Component Integration: Manage component selection and integration, ensuring seamless signal distribution and system functionality.
  • Collaborative Development: Coordinate with mechanical engineers and other team members for holistic product development.
  • Team Leadership: Conduct regular team meetings to align goals, set targets, and review technical designs.


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Advanced skills in multi-layer PCB design for compact devices.
  • Hands-on experience with motor control systems, including tuning and optimization.
  • Proficiency in firmware development for various controllers and processors.
  • Familiarity with electrical CAD tools such as Altium Designer.
  • Experience in integrating electrical systems with mechanical and software components.
  • Rapid prototyping, testing, and iteration capabilities.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols like I2C, SPI, UART, RS485, etc.
  • Expertise in power electronics, battery management, and energy-efficient design.
  • Strong collaboration skills, particularly in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities for complex engineering challenges.
  • Passion for staying abreast of the latest in electrical engineering and related fields.
  • Project management experience, including managing timelines and resources.
  • Ability to produce clear, comprehensive technical documentation.
