As an HSE Manager at this leading chemical business you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s health, safety, and environmental policies, ensuring full compliance with all relevant legislation and industry standards. You will oversee risk management processes, foster a safety-first culture, and champion sustainability initiatives across all company operations in the chemical manufacturing and distribution environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement HSE Policies: Formulate and implement HSE strategies, policies, and procedures in line with local regulations, industry best practices, and company goals.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard analyses, and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks related to chemical handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international safety, health, and environmental regulations, including OSHA, EPA, REACH, and other industry-specific standards.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into workplace accidents, chemical spills, and near-miss incidents, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventative measures.
  • Training and Development: Design and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs for employees, contractors, and management to ensure awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Auditing and Reporting: Conduct internal HSE audits and ensure accurate record-keeping for all safety, health, and environmental documentation, including reports to regulatory bodies.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire drills, chemical spill responses, and evacuation procedures.
  • Sustainability and Environmental Impact: Lead initiatives to minimize environmental impact, including waste reduction, energy conservation, and proper disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Safety Culture Promotion: Champion a culture of continuous improvement in health and safety by engaging employees at all levels in HSE initiatives.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and engineering, to integrate HSE considerations into all business activities.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in HSE management, preferably in the chemical, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical safety regulations, hazardous material handling, and environmental compliance.
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) are highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct detailed risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to promote safety culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in HSE management systems, incident reporting software, and Microsoft Office Suite.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in conducting root cause analysis and managing safety in high-risk environments.
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM) and other chemical-specific safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
